Pharmacovigilance Researcher – Temporary Position
Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a foundation with a global mission of safer use of medicines. Based in Uppsala, Sweden, UMC works on behalf of the World Health Organization (WHO) to collect and analyse international patient data with the aim of identifying and explaining problems related to medicines and their use. UMC is a world leader in scientific development in medicines safety monitoring, and provides capacity building in WHO member countries. Our products and services are used by health authorities and companies in the life science sector in more than 100 countries. UMC currently has approximately 100 employees.

Proffice Care is looking for a Pharmacovigilance Researcher for a consultant assignment at our customer UMC starting as soon as possible. The person we are looking for is a registered nurse with a strong interest in advancing the field of pharmacovigilance.

UMC is responsible for the technical and scientific operations of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring. One of the core tasks of the UMC is to regularly screen the WHO global individual case safety report database, VigiBase®, to identify possible medicine-related risks that need further investigation. UMC collaborate with experts with various clinical, pharmacological, scientific and cultural backgrounds. The UMC also develops and improves methodologies for broad exploratory analysis of VigiBase, electronic patient record systems, and social media. UMC leads and participates in international collaborative projects together with members of national pharmacovigilance centres, universities, health authorities, and industry. By joining the UMC, you will have the opportunity to work towards their vision of a world where all patients and health professionals make wise therapeutic decisions in their use of medicines.

Your main responsibilities will be to participate in the detection and analysis of medicine-related risks in individual case safety reports and electronic health records, coordinate the publication of the WHO Signal document, i.e. summaries of new possible adverse drug reactions detected in VigiBase and distributed to WHO member countries, correspond with experts around the world about ongoing investigations of potential adverse drug reactions, participate in scientific investigations of medicine-related problems and present research results internally and externally.

Main interfaces/collaborations are with other members of the Research section, UMC external clinical and pharmacological consultants, the WHO programme’s national pharmacovigilance centres and other external collaborators, including academic groups.

UMC is looking for a registered nurse with expertise in pharmacovigilance and medical writing, who is fluent in english (written and verbal) and has at least three years clinical work experience.

It is an added advantage if you have experience from working with safety signal detection, medical terminologies, data management and project management.

We expect you to enjoy interacting with co-workers and other stakeholders within an international pharmacovigilance community, be an empathic communicator, able to see things from different angles, efficiently identify and achieve goals with limited supervision, be organized and able to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches and be a team player who helps others to perform to the best of their ability.

The position is full-time between 1 May 2015 and 31 August 2016 and based at the UMC office in central Uppsala. UMC follows the Agreements between Swedish Agency for Government Employers and Saco-S and ST. You will have your employment at Proffice Care and work as a consultant at UMC.
