Research environment at Södertörn University
As a doctoral student in Social Work, you will join a research environment that offers multidisciplinary perspectives and an advanced curriculum. Doctoral students are affiliated with a Social Science research area called Politics, Economy and the Organisation of Society (PESO), encompassing the disciplines of Business Studies, Economics, Political Science, Social Work, and Sociology. In addition, they are affiliated with the Baltic and East European Graduate School (BEEGS), which is part of the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) at Södertörn University.

Social Work at Södertörn University is distinguished by its lively research and teaching environment. Research is organised in five somewhat overlapping themes: vulnerable groups and areas; social work in schools, studies of age and ageing and life-course perspectives, social interventions, and research on Eastern Europe. Our research fields include children and youths; disability; addiction and health; diaspora and ethnic relationships; civil society and social movements; welfare state and globalisation. Social Work faculty are strongly engaged in national and international research networks.

Your doctoral research must in some way be geographically concerned with the Baltic Sea region and/or the post-communist part of Europe and Central Asia. Theses with a comparative approach must include at least one country in the above-mentioned regions but may also include other countries. A thesis cannot only concern Sweden and Swedish society.
