You will be part of HVDC within the Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Ludvika. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems.

Your responsibilities
Product design and evaluation by mechanical simulation and lab testing. Thus, the job will comprise as 50% product design and 50% mechanical simulation.
Support/ lead the project as mechanical designer using commercial CAD tools preferably NX and as mechanical simulation engineer using commercial software, preferably ABAQUS/ANSYS/FluidFlow etc.
Provide support and insight to engineering teams based on design or simulations by sharing through technical discussion/ reports.
Linear or non-linear FEA structural simulation including fatigue, modal and seismic simulation using commercial software (ABAQUS) based on different type of HVDC converter valves.
CFD simulation of the whole converter valve or heat sink using commercial or open source software (e.g. ABAQUS, ANSYS, Open foam or equivalent).
1-D fluid flow simulation of HVDC converter valve and hall using commercial software preferably FluidFlow3.
Develop methodology, documentation of the result and tutorial writing for different analysis.
Co-operation with international design teams on development and optimization of HVDC valve structure.
Your background
You have a university degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
At least a couple of years of experience within Mechanical Design using 3D-CAD, ideally NX. You are a proficient computer user, and preferably have good knowledge in Team Center and SAP.
Experience in mechanical static/dynamic simulation especially fatigue and seismic simulation. Strong knowledge of any FEA tools. Basic knowledge on fatigue (IIW, DNV etc.) and seismic standards (IEEE, IEC, EuroCode etc.) are desirable.
Sound knowledge of CFD simulation and ability to perform 1-D fluid flow simulation. Basic knowledge of the solid and fluid mechanics to perform hand calculations.
Experience and knowledge of high voltage products are meriting.
Experience from working in a development environment is qualifying.
Verbal and written proficiency in English and efficient teamworking skills
Great self-learning skills and excellent collaborative capabilities. You are efficient and always striving after improvements. A responsible individual who understands complex systems.
