Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we're expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we're on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars' journey into the future.
Let's introduce ourselves
The growing demand for Electric Vehicles (EVs) has created a significant need for more efficient, compact, and cost-effective automotive powertrains. This means faster switching in the power electronic converter, which will create more conducted and radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI). There is a need for better tools that can accurately predict the EMI performance and help in the electromechanical design and the design of EMI filters.
What you'll do
Join us as an Industrial Ph.D. student at Volvo Cars and be at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation! You'll conduct cutting-edge research on Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in EV drivelines, working with our world-class Propulsion unit in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology and leading Swedish companies.
This exciting research project focuses on revolutionizing EMC design in electric vehicles. You'll explore innovative approaches including EMI filtering, advanced grounding concepts, and state-of-the-art modeling techniques using electromagnetic simulations and machine learning. Your specific focus will be on developing and optimizing electric machine designs for superior EMC performance, combining theoretical modeling with hands-on experimental validation.
As part of Volvo Cars' prestigious Industrial Ph.D. Program (VIPP) - one of Sweden's largest industrial doctoral programs - you'll enjoy the best of both worlds. You'll be a full-time employee at Volvo Cars while pursuing your Ph.D. at Chalmers University of Technology. This unique 5-year journey includes:
* Advanced coursework and teaching opportunities
* Hands-on industry experience
* Original research with real-world applications
* Collaboration with industry experts and academic leaders
* Guidance from both industrial and academic supervisors
This is your chance to shape the future of electric mobility while gaining invaluable expertise in EMI/EMC for automotive electric drivelines. Join us in solving real-world challenges that will define the next generation of electric vehicles!
What you'll bring
We're seeking candidates with an M.Sc. degree in Physics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, who are passionate about EMI/EMC, electromagnetics, and power electronics. The ideal candidate combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, showing enthusiasm for hands-on experimental work and testing of electronic systems.
You should be an innovative thinker with genuine enthusiasm for electromobility and EV development. Strong communication skills in English are essential, as you'll be collaborating closely with both university researchers and industry professionals.
Please submit your CV and cover letter through your application. You will be required to provide your academic transcripts, and Bachelor and/or Master thesis report during the recruitment process. At Volvo Cars, we value diverse perspectives and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds who share our passion for innovative automotive technology.
