The Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) is looking for a Research Assistant in Economics. As part of the job, you will provide data work support to research projects at the Institute. IIES is one of the leading research institutes in economics in the Nordic countries and Europe. The institute aims to produce leading economic research on important societal issues. Main responsibilities
As a research assistant, you will collaborate closely with a team of faculty, PhD students, and other research assistants on cutting-edge research projects in economics. The team focuses on several new and ongoing studies related to inequality and unemployment, employing state-of-the-art empirical methods to address policy-relevant questions. Our work utilizes large administrative datasets and involves creating new datasets to inform better policy design and push the boundaries of current knowledge.

Your tasks will include constructing new datasets by digitizing historical archival documents, managing and analyzing data, create statistical outputs and clear, instructive figures to present findings effectively.

This position provides exposure to all stages of the research process and valuable training in data-intensive methods. It is an excellent opportunity for those considering graduate education, a research-oriented career, or roles in the private or public sector.

Qualification requirements
We are seeking candidates with a university degree in economics or a related field (e.g., computer science or mathematics).

Experience in working with data using Python and/or R is essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively to solve problems. Strong backgrounds in mathematics and programming are crucial.

The working language is English, and you must be able to communicate fluently in both oral and written English. Knowledge of Swedish or another Scandinavian language is an advantage.

Terms of employment
The position is full-time and limited to 12 months. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary.
