The institute?s research has been organized around 4 distinct clusters in order to deepen intellectual interaction and collaboration between researchers. The advertised position as researcher with focus on Resources ? water, food and energy will be part of the cluster for Rural Dynamics: Agrarian Change, Property and Resources and the researcher with focus on Migration and Mobility will be part of the cluster African International Links.

Researcher with focus on Resources ? water, food and energy should prove a research interest within the following research theme:
In the near future there are three predicted and interlinked forthcoming crises directly related to poverty and increased populations: the water crisis, the food crisis and the energy crisis. In Sub-Saharan Africa farming is the most important work and way of living generating incomes for the majority of the rural dwellers. At the same time, urban growth implies that a larger population will be dependent upon food they do not produce themselves. Africa is also in desperate needs for more energy for development. Hence, there are several crucial issues: to what extent are African resources used for African development and water-, food- and energy security? Who benefit from on-going developments in these sectors ? foreign investors, governments, or farmers and citizens?

Researcher with focus on Migration and Mobility should prove a research interest within the following research theme:
Human migration and mobility is a major phenomenon across Africa, which has climbed to the top of both national and regional policy agendas. Due to its complexity and magnitude, being an issue that exists in widely different geographical and demographic contexts, in many forms and across socio-economic and skill boundaries, this policy discourse is in urgent need of more scientifically based knowledge on driving forces, patterns and effects of different types of migration and mobility.

Migration is a critical issue of our times, and hence a major interdisciplinary field of enquiry in the social sciences. The research at Nordic Africa Institute seeks to contribute knowledge in the field by focusing on two main areas:
• Skilled migration and mobility in the context of knowledge production
• Return migration as source for development
Researchers with an interest in these areas are particularly encouraged to apply, but the position is also open for applicants with adjacent research interests in field of migration and mobility.

The following applies to both positions:

• The work will be coordinated together with the cluster and lead by the cluster leader.

• The researcher will also participate in the activities pertaining to NAI's scholarship programmes, planning seminars and workshops, and information dissemination
