Early Stage Researchers/PhD student position at Ericsson Research
A unique opportunity is offered to an Early Stage Researcher/PhD student interested in pursuing PhD studies in an industrial research setting at Ericsson AB's world-class research organization Ericsson Research, in Stockholm, Sweden. During 36 months, a full-time research position, targeting research on machine learning in wireless communications, being part of the H2020-ITN-2018 WindMill project will be supported.

Job description
Within Ericsson Research, Research Area Radio is responsible for providing advanced system and signal processing concepts and solutions, including antenna concepts and solutions, targeting standardization of radio access systems as well as implementation in network nodes and in user or machine terminals. Mastering physical layer techniques is key (multiple access technologies, modulation, spectrum regulations, channel coding, parameter estimation, multi-antenna transmitter and receiver algorithms, etc.). Using simulation tools as means of evaluation is natural part of the work. Understanding the interaction between link and system performance, to ensure that proposed access solutions are enabling efficient overall performance is also crucial. Furthermore, understanding hardware possibilities and limitations, based on today's and tomorrow's technologies is important.
Being enrolled as an ESR in the WindMill project, you are entering an extensive research and training program. The position and project offer:

The academic degree will be issued by Aalborg University (AAU), in Denmark. To be eligible, the ESR will also be enrolled in the Wireless Communications department's PhD programme at AAU. Formal academic supervision will be provided by Prof. Petar Popovski.

Candidate requirements
To qualify for the position, you need to have:
1. An undergraduate degree and Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. Strong background in wireless communications and/or machine learning is an advantage.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as presentation skills.
3. Highly proficient English language skills.
4. Excellent organizational skills, be creative, innovative, and also an independent thinker
5. Motivation to collaborate in an interdisciplinary international team.
6. Motivation to participate in training programs.
7. Ability to travel and work in and outside Europe.

Eligibility Requirements
All candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for this post:
a. Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs) shall at the time of recruitment by the host organization be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. Full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him or her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited.
b. At the time of recruitment by the host organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization for more than 12 months in the three years immediately prior to the recruitment date. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status (under the 1951 Geneva Convention and the 1967 Protocol) are not taken into account.
