hela Sverige The Man Technology Environment Research Centre (MTM) at Örebro University focuses on applied research on chemical compounds of different origin in the environment and their relations to sustainable development.
We are now in the process of establishing the Environmental Forensic (EnForce) Laboratory. It is a new research effort funded by the Knowledge Foundation research profile program in collaboration with ten partners from trade and industry and the Swedish Toxicology Sciences Research Center (Swetox). The main goal of the EnForce Laboratory is to track and identify environmental pollutants with a better understanding of their effects. The objectives are to develop and apply advanced analytical methods including metabolomics, bioassay technologies and speciation for effect-directed analysis and hazard assessment of the full spectrum of toxicologically relevant anthropogenic chemicals, mixtures, transformation products and metals in the bio- and technospheres.
The School of Science and Technology is seeking a PhD student in biology for a fixed-term appointment. Örebro University is currently offering research study opportunities on the programme specified above. For the successful candidate, the programme will conclude with the award of the Degree of Doctor. The start date of the programme is August 2017.
The PhD candidate will participate in a project with focus on the investigation of mechanism-specific and molecular effects caused by selected pollutants, their mixtures and contaminated environmental samples. The applicant should be skilled in molecular biology and have experience in working with zebrafish. We also expect knowledge and skills in ecotoxicology, mixture toxicology and cell culture testing. A background knowledge of analytical organic chemistry is of advantage.
The successful candidate candidate should be creative and analytically oriented with a solid theoretical background. Proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement. General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.

The programme
The successful candidate is offered a place on the research study programme concluding with the Degree of Doctor. The programme comprises 240 credits, which corresponds to four years of full-time study. Extensions to the study period are granted for instance to compensate for any sick leave and parental leave.

Doctoral studentships
The position is offered as a full-time doctoral studentship for the duration of the study programme. Duties such as teaching, administration and research other than the student's own thesis project may be included, however with no more than 20 per cent of a full-time post. To compensate for time spent on such duties, extensions to the programme length and funding period will be granted. More information on doctoral studentships, part-time studies and part-time doctoral studentships can be found in the Regulations Handbook. The initial salary for a doctoral studentship is 25.800 SEK per month.
