The Department of Aquatic Resources work with environmental monitoring and assessment, biological advice, research and education in aquatic ecology with a focus on fish and shellfish. The department is the largest at SLU and has about 180 employees in mainly three localities, Lysekil, Öregrund and Stockholm (Drottningholm).

Our main areas are data collection and analysis of fish, fishery and ecosystems. The department has extensive interaction with the community, which creates unique possibilities to connect research, environmental assessment and advice to the needs of environmental management.

Duties:
The Department of Aquatic Resources look for a new coworker to develop and manage out databases. Within the department we collect large numbers of data , mostly about fish, shellfish and fishery for various purposes. It includes scientific investigations as well as data collection from fishing boats or recreations fishery. Data is collected based on statistical sampling designs and it is important that the design is mirrored in the data model, for correct use of the data in the future. New needs in sampling and use of data requires development of the database and its management, to be able to handle new kinds of data (eg. video material) and to make the data readily available to more users nationally and internationally.

You will work in a team with our existing system developer in all aspects of the system development process from gathering the requirements and needs, data modelling, development of data storage and the increasing demands of data availability. You will also work close with and have support from our team that develop sampling design, to help develop data models. There will be interaction with scientists and project leaders that are responsible for various project. Management of the database, to assure functionality, availability, quality and security is an important task, as well as development of reports from the database to facilitate for various users of the data.

Qualifications:
A university degree in system science or equivalent. You have a broad knowledge in management processes of data and good understanding of how data sampling design, data storage and making the data available to users are connected.

We are looking for a person with good skills in making data models, development, integration and management of relational databases. We use an Oracle database, so knowledge in Oracle (SQL, PL/SCL) is an advantage. You have good analytical abilities, experience in structuring data and handling big datasets. You are preferably well experienced in writing R-scripts. Knowledge in statistics is an advantage.

We work both in a national and international environment. Good skills in speaking and writing in Swedish and English are important, but if other skills are met, improving the language can be part of a development plan.

You need to be well structured, good at collaboration and also able to work independently. We consider personal qualifications and previous work experience of great importance.
