OBJECTIVE
The Data Engineer will be a proactive person working together with IT and the business on designing, developing and deploying analytical and reporting capabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, build, enhance, and maintain Power BI and Azure SQL DB reports and dashboards working from specification documents and/or direct interaction with business users
Write efficient SQL Server queries and stored procedures to populate reporting datasets
Review and provide feedback to other developers in the team with an emphasis on efficiency, quality, and design
Decipher existing reports and database processes to assist users, Systems Analysts, and Data Stewards in understanding reports
Foster a collaborative culture that facilitates the achievement of business plan objectives by working closely with other associates and members of management
Participate in special projects as needed
Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by management
COMPETENCIES NEEDED
• At least 3 years experience in MS DW / BI stack as a developer.
• Good understanding of DW architecture and data modeling.
• A driving force to create business benefits with the help of IT.
• Must be proficient in SQL including joins, inserts, updates, deletes, conditional logic, subqueries, temp tables, and complex data transformation functions
• Knowledgeable of relational database management systems required. T-SQL (Microsoft SQL) preferred
• Experience using a reporting platform to build graphs and charts communicating business information required. Power BI and SSRS preferred
• Experience reviewing datasets, graphs, and charts for data quality required
• Experience with other Microsoft data products (PowerApps, SSAS, SSIS, Sharepoint Workflows, Data Factory, Polybase, PowerShell, etc) a plus
• Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify needs, make recommendations for improvement, see recommendations through implementation, and evaluate improvements for effectiveness
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Team player that can adapt in a fast pace and changing environment
• An open and curious approach to new technology and new opportunities.
