We are convinced it's a match made in data heaven (all our analytics services in the cloud. Pun intended!). We can offer huge amounts of data to work with: 5 million users every week contribute to an endless supply of data and insights. Every week, every day, all year long.
Your mission, together with the rest of the Insight & Analytics team, is to collaboratively drive a data-first culture across Blocket. With such a mission we contribute to endless opportunities for everyone while at the same time reducing the carbon footprint for the people of Sweden. That is creating WOW!
We are Blocket, Sweden's largest and most popular marketplace with around 12,3M monthly active users generating over 100 million sessions. We are proud of our impact on second-hand trade in Sweden, enabling more sustainable ways of shopping. Want to get a feel of the Blocket vibe? Check us out on Instagram & LinkedIn and read more on Begagnateffekten!
What you'll be up to
Blocket is a marketplace but it's really an ensemble of marketplaces that all stem from the well known blocket.se för second-hand goods. Blocket is built on different technologies and the product domains look different depending on the different marketplaces; Generalist, Motor, Real Estate, Jobs and Education - hence the data looks different too.
As a data engineer in Insight & Analytics you will play an important role in the data value chain, making sure that we integrate and retrieve the right data in an efficient and correct way. But also enable that data for analysis and Visualization in tight collaboration with Data Analysts and other data consumers in Blocket as well as Schibsted.
Schibsted has its own tracking service and a lot of the behavioural data is fetched from a Schibsted central storage/service. And as our products evolve, so does our data. Blocket is in a state of technical change and many new technologies emerge that make it easier and faster to consume data from different services, which means that we always need to keep scalability and continuous integration in mind, bet the most important thing is to keep in mind that all the data we engineer has a purpose and as a data engineers to make sure the data you engineer fits the needs of Blockets data consumers.
Who you are
You have passion for data, big as well as small. You feel comfortable relating your engineering work to analytical questions important for our business and the development of our product. So having a supportive approach to colleagues and making sure the data you engineer have the desired impact is of real importance for you.
You find it easy to balance short term value and long term scalability and have a pragmatic approach to a perfect solution vs. a working solution. You are familiar with and enthusiastic about engineering best practices such as testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery. Even though you are a technical savvy person you agree that the real value lies in being a strong team player who is proactive in collaborating with others. Most importantly; you enjoy the challenge of learning new things and pick up/adapt to changes faster than your peers

Hi! I am your new colleague, Emil.
My name is Emil and I'm 31 years old. I am fairly new at Blocket, although I have been working in Data & Analytics for over four years in different roles and companies. As a Data Engineer I enjoy making data understandable, whether it be by transforming raw data into an easy-to-consume format for business users, or by simplifying and optimising a data warehouse model. Working with large amounts of data from the most popular marketplace in the country while serving an environmental purpose makes it really fun and fulfilling to work at Blocket.
Hello! I'm your new colleague, Johan.
I've been at Blocket for a bit more than 3 years, currently as the Lead Data Engineer for Insights & Analytics, and I've spent the last 6-7 years of my career focused on various different data-oriented roles. Before that, I come from a background in infrastructure automation, system & database administration, and a bit of application development. At home we're a family of 5, with my wife, a daughter who's in school, and two younger sons. Having a 2yo (the youngest) can be challenging at times, but they're also adorable, so there's that. Time "off" is spent doing house renovations, playing video games, and usually watching a bit of Netflix in the evenings with my wife. Blocket has been, decidedly, the best workplace I've had so far -- we have a great team, work for a company that has a positive impact, and get to wrestle with plenty of interesting data sources!
Interested in joining the Blocket world?
We look forward to hearing from you! Send your CV or apply with your LinkedIn-profile and let us know what makes you tick. We would love to get to know you a bit better! Questions - feel free to reach out to
