Vacancy: Country Coordinator for a Global Textile Sustainable Resource Management Program with focus on Production in Asia
Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) is secretariat and implementing partner for the Sweden Textile Water Initiative (STWI)
www.stwi.se and has been driving collaborative programs with the textile sector to improve sustainable water use in production processes at the supplier and sub-supplier levels. Between 2015 and 2017, SIWI has scaled up its current operations to Bangladesh, Ethiopia, China, India and Turkey, building the capacity of more than 200 textile and leather suppliers and sub-suppliers to major global brands. The aim is to catalyze a self-perpetuating shift towards sustainable water use in production processes, improve water risk mitigation at provincial / national levels, and provide global business intelligence by analyzing trends and data related to sustainable production.
SIWI is looking to hire a program coordinator, with solid, reputable experience coordinating sustainability projects within the textile sector for brands, technical consultancies, and/or international programs.
About the position
The incumbent will hold a middle to senior level position with dedicated assignments within the STWI unit and reports to the Program Manager and the STWI Director. In undertaking the assignments, the incumbent will maintain close coordination and collaborate with the whole team. The ideal applicant has typically worked at or with textile fashion or retail brands on sustainability programming directly with factories, has similar experience working as a consultant, or has worked at textile factories in production process areas for implementing advanced sustainability/resource efficiency programs. The incumbent has worked for 5 years in at least one of our production countries, preferably more.
Requirements
Education
An advanced university degree in a field relevant to environmental science, industrial resource engineering, industrial water management, chemical management, business management.
Previous experience
• 5 - 10 years, experience working as a sustainability project coordinator for textile brands or consultancies. With experience in the following areas:
• Individually managing complex projects for at least 4 years in, at least, one of these countries: Turkey, India, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan.
• Contracting and managing consultants, auditors and experts
• Performing factory-based audits for brands and or international programs
• Coordinating complex projects involving international stakeholders
• Organizing workshops, meetings, and logistics for training and education activities
• Project management, team management, administration and accounting
• Analyzing complex value or supply chains, market trends, policy etc.
• Certification in auditing tools such as EMS, Lean, Higg, etc.
Language and communication skills
The applicant must have excellent spoken, written and presentation skills in business / academic English.
Fluency in Turkish, Hindi, Urdu, Mandarin, or any other language widely spoken in our potential production countries is highly valued.
Well-developed presentation and public speaking skills.
Well-traveled person who has worked in an international environment, preferably for European or US-based employers.
Other Requirements
Must be able to travel at least 30-50% of the work time.
Duty Station
Depending on the background, and the location of the incumbent, the duty station will be in any of the production countries - Turkey, India, Bangladesh or China, with 2-3 annual visits to Stockholm, Sweden.
Start date
As soon as possible. Preferably in January 2017.

To complete the task you need to answer the following questions in a "sales letter" format to a wet-processing, textile factory owner, (no more than 1000 words):
1- Define and describe the importance of Circular Production to a textile factory owner?
2- Where is the holistic potential for circular production within, and outside if necessary, a textile factory with regard to natural resources, materials, and manufacturing processes?
3- What are the arguments, including financial, for convincing the factory to gradually shift towards circular production? Can you provide a real-life example for cost-saving and ROI?
4- How do sell your services to the factory owner to help them establish and maintain circular production?
