The Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is an international and ecumenical centre for peace research and action. In its peacebuilding programmes, LPI works with civil society actors involved in conflict transformation, from both a theoretical and practical perspective, with special emphasis on faith based organisations. The head office, located in Uppsala, Sweden, supervises the national offices in Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo. New country offices in Ethiopia and Sudan are expected to open during 2008.
Main responsibilities
• Contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Communications Unit’s activities and outputs, including, but not exclusively:
• Develop marketing/promotion material specifically targeting donors and other key stakeholders.
• Update and further expand the LPI website.
• Further develop and strengthen the internal communication between the Uppsala head office and the field offices.
• Help identify and meet communication needs in the field offices and among their partners.
• Improve donor relations through co-writing or editing project proposals, reports and other communication materials.
• Documenting the activities of LPI and its partners and sharing these experiences internally and externally.
Qualifications required
• Academic degree in media/communication studies or journalism or equivalent knowledge acquired through professional experience
• At least three years experience in communications work in a development or peace-related-, preferably NGO, setting.
• Knowledge and experience of production of printed material and printing routines.
• Computer literacy in MS Office and html applications.
• Excellent writing skills (including experience with editing and report writing)
• Fluency in written and spoken English. Proficiency in French and/ or Swedish is an asset.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Experience of working in an inter-cultural setting
