Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment
The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/aquatic-sciences) is working with applied environmental science, with a national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to water chemistry, pollution and aquatic biota. The department has some 100 employees. The research focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, as well as on aquatic ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry. The department is part of a Soil-Water-Environment cluster, a recently established competence center for landscape-level processes that also includes the Departments of 'Soil and Environment' and 'Energy and Technology'. The breadth of expertise among the 300 members in combination with a well-equipped infrastructure creates a unique platform for high quality research as well as environmental monitoring and assessment.

Duties:
The person recruited will have an overall responsibility for diligent and safe daily operations at the Department research laboratories. Additional tasks include coordination of maintenance and use of analytical instruments and research equipment, chemical analyses and methods development for different research projects. This includes water chemistry for nutrients, carbon compounds (3D fluorometry and HPLC) and stable isotope analyses. The specific tasks will be tailored to fit the experience and skills of the successful applicant. The recruited person is also expected to contribute to supervision and mentoring of students and other researchers as well as procurement and purchases for the laboratories.

The Department research laboratories is a stimulating workplace with potential for future career development. Tasks will vary depending on active projects and for this we need competent and service-minded staff to support and strengthen our projects with problem-solving, method development, documentation and quality assurance.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a university degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or related field, with at least one year of experience from an analytical laboratory. Individual strengths and skillsets will be highly considered for this hire. We expect the candidate to have leadership skills, an ability to work independently and prioritize among tasks. An ability to collaborate and communicate will be necessary as the work entails contacts with a diverse and large group of researchers and students.

Previous experience of relevant analytical chemistry, analysis of environmental samples, research documentation and handling of research data, and Swedish language skills is a merit.
