The Arena
AstraZeneca is currently making large investments to increase our research capability in Inhaled Pharmaceuticals, in Mölndal, Sweden. We are investing in new equipment, new technologies and more people. We now aim to increase the number of people working with Product Development for Inhalation by 50%. We therefore seek people with knowledge in various skills relevant for inhaled drug delivery, such as formulation science, analytical chemistry, solid state properties, device development and biopharmaceutical sciences.
AstraZeneca Mölndal is one of AstraZeneca's three core sites for drug research, with about 2.500 employees at site. At Product Development, Sweden, a sub-division of Pharmaceutical Development, we focus on the fields of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases and on Respiratory, Inflammatory and Autoimmune Diseases. Within Product Development Inhalation we have an exciting pipeline, consisting of both new molecules and new devices. The unit currently comprises 80 people, dedicated to research and development for new inhaled drug products and we want you to be a part of growing our expertise in this area.
The Role
As an Associate Principal Scientist in Chemical Process Engineering you will be an important part of implementing good engineering science in our inhaled drug projects and in our build up of new technology platforms.
You will be a part of a team building, developing and optimizing our engineering processes to support formulation platforms for Inhaled drug projects. Your main focus will be on fundamental understanding of Chemical/Physical/ Engineering aspect of particle/powder processing for dry powder inhalers, but other processing steps can also be included. You will actively develop predictive engineering tools as well as taking part in hands on development/optimization and scale-up activities for processing steps of interest.
Examples of key attributes for the role are the following;
Be a part of, or lead, technical cross functional project teams, working on new Inhaled formulations.
Extensive experience of developing/using predictive tools for multiphase systems (solid/gas/liquid), e.g. spray drying, powder flow.
Extensive hands on experience of development/optimization and scale-up powder/particle processing.
Apply technical knowledge to improvement projects and the evaluation of new technology/processes.
Assess, record and report data. Scientifically evaluate data and translate these into useful recommendations.
Prepare documentation and formal reports in accordance with current standards
Work closely together with Device Development.
