The group Engine CAE is responsible for advanced technical calculations within the Engine Development department at Volvo Car Group. The area of the group includes Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), structural analysis (FEM) and other types of mechanical analyses. Analyses are performed on different system levels with the overall purpose of developing attributes, dimensioning components and virtually verify different technical solutions.
As a CAE Engineer within piston system analysis you will perform calculations on the piston system regarding piston ring function with focus on oil consumption, blow-by, dynamics and friction. The analyses are primarily carried out with Matlab based codes. The position gives the opportunity to understand and analyse one of the core systems of an internal combustion engine. The work is carried out in both early and later phases of an engine development project.
We are looking for someone that is analytical and has a genuine interest in advanced technical calculations and highly developed methods. The work will be carried out both independently and in teams. As the role will involve a broad span of contacts you should have a strong ability to communicate and to convey results in a structured and understandable way.
Main responsibilities
• Perform calculations on piston ring pack concerning oil consumption and blow by
• Perform calculations of friction in the piston system
• Perform calculations on piston dynamics
• Analyse results and issue recommendations
• Take part in method development within the area
• Actively participate in development projects and teams
Required qualifications
• M. Sc in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience of advanced computer aided analysis
• Experience of analysis within the area of tribology
• Experience of analysis of piston systems of an internal combustion engine is meritorious
• Fluent in English, spoken and written
