We now seek three talented and motivated biopharmaceutical scientists with various levels of experience (Senior Scientist, Associate Principal Scientist, Principal Scientist/Associate Director) to join Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Technology & Development in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Pharmaceutical Sciences is a department within AstraZeneca Biopharmaceutical R&D. The Pharmaceutical Sciences' mission is to transform molecules into investigational medicines, meeting the unmet needs of future patients. Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD) is a department in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Our portfolio of projects spans traditional small molecules, proteins, oligonucleotides to RNA based therapeutics across AstraZeneca's therapy areas and our mission is to transform diverse modalities into investigational medicines.
Pharmaceutical Technology & Development (PT&D) is a global function tasked with design, development, commercialization and support of AstraZeneca's medicines and reports to the EVP of Operations. Inhalation Product Development in Gothenburg sits within PT&D and is responsible for the development of inhalation combination products. Inhalation Product Development deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, formulation and manufacturing the final drug product. As a Biopharmaceutical Expert you are anticipated to provide biopharmaceutical input into respiratory development projects and independently lead method development and research projects within the area of inhalation biopharmaceutics. This is an exciting role where you will act as a key member of various project teams and provide your scientific expertise into formulation design and development strategies. You will have responsibilities for selecting lead compounds and formulation designs for projects involving inhaled drug delivery to ensure desired clinical performance targets from discovery to Phase II. To do this successfully you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team composed of formulators, analysts, solid and material state specialists. You are expected to take a holistic view of CMC activities as well as have knowledge of other scientific fields within BioPharma R&D and deliver innovative and differentiated strategies that balance scientific risks against return on investment.
We are looking for candidates with previous experience in supporting inhaled projects who have a strong understanding of biopharmaceutics, physical chemistry and biology to enable a mechanistic understanding of in vivo drug product performance.
The role will be expected to work cross-functionally supporting drug projects from early to late clinical phase and be involved with science & technology initiatives. We seek a broad range of expertise in these roles. Hence, we are looking for you who are considered to be a specialist in this area and have a PhD in a relevant topic, but we are also looking for graduates with the right skills and background, typically from pharmaceutics, chemistry and chemical engineering, willing to be developed in this role. The career level of the positions will be set according to the background of the applicants.
Minimum Requirements - Experience, Skills and Capabilities
* Ph.D or Master of Science in a relevant subject area (such as Biopharmaceutics, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacokinetics or Drug Delivery) or equivalent industrial experience within inhaled pharmaceutical drug development
* Good understanding of biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics
* Practical experience in the use of in vitro and in vivo methodologies to support drug development
* Experience of predictions of pre-clinical and clinical performance of drug products based on in vitro as well as in vivo data using mechanistic in silico models
* Ability to communicate and write proficiently in English
