The position is permanent, at Genomics, Core Facilities. Probation period will apply.
The Core Facilities resource centers give researchers access to advanced technical equipment and skilled expertise in a
number of disciplines within the Sahlgrenska Academy. Genomics Core Faciliy performs genetic analyses from the initial
planning of studies, including dimensioning and choice of design, through the laboratory processes to the final evaluation
of the results. For more information, see
www.genomics.cf.gu.se.At Genomics, you will work in multiple projects, and in each project the analyses and time frames are set up in agreement
with the client. You plan your daily work together with the core manager and you are responsible for compiling the
results, so we assume that you can work independently. The role of a consultant places high demands on your social,
communicative and pedagogical ability.
Your daily tasks:
The daily work includes establishment of informatics infrastructure and development of data analysis pipelines for analysis of high-throughput data (for example from next generation sequencing (NGS) instruments and microarray platforms). These pipelines will be used in bioinformatics analyses for the customer in routine fee-for-service projects.
The work also includes providing bioinformatics support to the Genomics laboratory personnel. Since development of
large-scale data analysis pipelines requires custom programs, a part of your work will be to quickly become familiar
with new software and to write your own program code. This means that a major portion of your tasks will include programming.
Qualifications:
You should have background in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, mathematics or equivalent. You should
have experience of working in UNIX/Linux environments, as well as a solid background in programming and scripting. Experience of NGS data analysis and interdisciplinary work is an advantage. Also, knowledge of the lab workflow and sequencing applications will be valuable. Since we work with both national and international
customers, you should master the English language in speech and writing. As an employee at a Core Facility, responsiveness and flexibility are important characteristics in the meeting with various issues and different project approaches.
