This is a 2 years position with a probable extension at the Bioinformatics, Core Facilities. Probation period will apply.
The Core Facilities resource centers give researchers access to advanced technical equipment and skilled expertise in a number of disciplines within the Sahlgrenska Academy. The Bioinformatics Core Facility provides a wide range of statistical and bioinformatics analysis to researchers mainly at the Sahlgrenska Academy. For more information, see

The position as a bioinformatics data analyst within the Bioinformatics Infrastructure for Life Sciences (BILS) network involves providing service and advice for multiple projects at the universities and hospitals throughout the country. You will work in a core network including researchers, geneticists, clinicians, data system engineers, bioinformaticians and biostatisticians in the development of NGS data management, analysis and interpretation for the clinic.
Your daily tasks:
The main task will be to provide guidance and advice in the analysis and interpretation of clinical NGS data. For this purpouse you will need to establish a informatics infrastructure for data management and analysis. The data includes mainly human targeted resequencing and thus put high demands on quality assessment and secure systems in relation to ethical guidelines and legislations. You will work in close collaboration with application experts and data system engineers at the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC) centers (maily C3SE, UPPNEX-UPPMAX and NSC) as well as with existing preclinical research groups at the local universities (Gothenburg University and Chalmers University) and clinicians at the Sahlgrenska Hospital. The pipelines will futher be implemented in bioinformatics service unit as a routine fee-forservice for clinical customers. Since development of large-scale data informatics structures and analysis pipelines requires custom programs, a part of your work will be to quickly become familiar with new software and to write your own program code. This means that a major portion of your tasks will include programming.
Qualifications:
You should have background in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, mathematics or equivalent. You must have a solid background in computing and scripting languages such as MATLAB, Java, R, Perl, Python or the alike. You must have experience in NGS data analysis, especially in target resequencing. Experience with UNIX/Linux environments is essential. Familiarity with handling/interpreting human data will be valuable. You should be an outspoken person as well as social and communicative. Previous experience working in multidisciplinary environments is desirable. Pedagogical skills are a plus.
