Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

We are looking for a bioinformatician within the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM) and National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS).

Your future work assignments
Your tasks will consist of:

• Advanced bioinformatics analyses within research projects
• Development of tools and workflows for such analyses
• Educating other scientists in bioinformatics through collaboration within supported projects, teaching at national courses and networking
• Taking part in the continuous development and improvement of NBIS at a national level

Data analysis within research projects is the primary task and will be carried out in collaboration with research groups at Swedish universities or industry. This work can range from shorter analysis tasks to deep collaborations within large nationally prioritized projects, where you would have the overall responsibility for the bioinformatics aspects.

Your future workplace
You will work at the Division of Bioinformatics at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The division includes research groups focusing on systems biology, structure prediction and theoretical chemistry.

The National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (https://nbis.se) is a large national infrastructure in rapid development providing support, tools and training to the Swedish life science research community. NBIS comprises the SciLifeLab bioinformatics platform, and has more than 70 staff across Sweden. We are now looking for a new member to join the NBIS bioinformatics support team, to provide advanced bioinformatics analyses to some of the most scientifically exciting projects across Sweden. The support division currently comprises close to 40 full-time senior bioinformaticians across Sweden, with broad and advanced expertise in analysis of large-scale genomics and other omics data. Examples of supported scientific areas range from translational medicine and complex diseases, to fundamental cell biology and evolutionary and environmental research. We are now looking for a new permanent team member to extend our node at Linköping University. The work will include some amount of travel to other sites, as knowledge exchange, both within NBIS and with the larger Swedish life science community, is a key aspect of our operation and development, to maintain cutting-edge expertise for analysis of current and emerging data types.

Your qualifications
We are looking for someone who has (i) a PhD or similar relevant working experience from advanced studies within bioinformatics, in academia or industry, (ii) proficiency in terminal-based work in a Linux environment and in at least one scripting language (e.g Python, Perl or R), (iii) fluent oral and written communication skills in English, and (iv) strong skills in cooperation and communication. Postdoctoral studies are a strong merit but not a requirement. We also believe that you have experience of advanced analysis in areas such as transcriptomics, epigenetics or single-cell biology, and preferably integrative analyses of multiple data types. Strong skills in experimental design, software development, or machine learning are also beneficial. "Reproducible research" and "FAIR data" are central concepts to us.
