Northern Sweden is a European space region with several major players collaborating in space technology and space science. Luleå University of Technology (LTU) provides research and education, the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) focuses on space plasma research and instrument development, and EISCAT Scientific Association carries out radar observations of the upper atmosphere and ionosphere.
The Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Technology is seeking an associate senior lecturer to contribute to research and teaching in planetary science. The position is located at the Division of Space Technology in Kiruna. The division offers a number of Master degree programs in Space Science and Technology. The division conducts research in the areas of atmospheric science and space systems.
Subject description
Atmospheric science deals with research on the atmosphere of Earth and other planets by modelling along with development and use of instruments for remote sensing and in situ observations. Special focus is on the atmosphere's dynamical, chemical, and physical processes, as well as better weather and climate predictions.
Duties
As an Associate Senior Lecturer, you collaborate in the joint development of research and teaching planetary science at Kiruna Space Campus. You will teach and coordinate courses delivered by the Atmospheric Science subject at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervise master and PhD students, and work with grant applications to initiate new project-based research directions related to the subject's research topics. You will participate in the group's joint development in the field of research and teaching and cooperate with research groups both within the department, the university and with other universities, colleges, and other external parties, both nationally and internationally.
Eligibility Requirements
You have obtained a PhD in physics, astronomy, geology or planetary science and are an expert in concepts and methods used in experimental planetary science. Eligible to be hired as associate senior lecturer are those who have completed a doctorate or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. In the first instance, those should be considered for employment who have completed a doctorate within five years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been passed earlier. Special reasons mean leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, trust assignment, or similar circumstances.
Assessment criteria (weighted equally)
The following assessment criteria are applied for the position:
• Ability to win funding as evidenced by successful grant applications;
• Scientific excellence as evidenced by published outputs in peer-reviewed, international, high profile journals.
Promotion to senior lecturer
An Associate Senior Lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to university lecturer (senior lecturer) and employed until further notice if he/she has the qualifications for an appointment as a senior lecturer and in an examination is deemed suitable for such employment according to the assessment criteria set out below.
The examination requires that the associate senior lecturer has undergone pedagogical education equivalent to 7.5 credits or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. In addition, during the period of employment, the associate senior lecturer shall independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, contribute to the university's research and demonstrate good pedagogical skills.

- Successful grant applications
- Published outputs in peer-reviewed, international, high profile journals;
- Teaching contributions, evidenced either through participating to teaching or course development.
