We hope that you will help us to build the sustainable companies and societies of the future.The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resource Engineering at Luleå University of Technology is seeking an Assistant Professor in Waste Science and Technology with a focus on PFAS degradation to strengthen research and education in sustainable waste management and environmental technology. PFAS represents a growing environmental challenge, and there is a significant need for innovative technologies for effective PFAS degradation and elimination. The position will contribute to the development of advanced treatment methods, such as electrochemical oxidation, biotechnological solutions, and combined processes, with a focus on practical applications. This appointment is strategically important to address society's need for sustainable solutions for PFAS management.
Waste Technology is part of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resource Engineering, which is a broad interdisciplinary department with many successful research groups and recognized educational programs. Waste Science and Technology at LTU is ranked among the top ten research groups globally in the field.
Subject description
Waste Science and Technology covers all stages of the society 's waste - formation, collection, treatment, and disposal of waste, including utilization and recycling. The research aims to develop tools and methods for sustainable waste management.
Duties
An Associate Senior Lecturer is typically expected to be actively engaged in the university's education, pedagogical development, and research. The applicant is also expected to contribute to international collaborations, supervise doctoral students, participate in research projects, communicate research findings through academic publications, and contribute with the external research funding for the subject.
Qualifications
To meet the requirements for the appointment as associate senior lecturer, the applicant:
• must have been awarded a doctoral degree or must have a foreign degree considered equivalent to a doctoral degree.
Primary consideration should be given to someone who has been awarded a doctoral degree within five years of the application deadline for employment as an associate senior lecturer. However, someone who has been awarded a doctoral degree or achieved corresponding competence at an earlier date may also be considered if there are special grounds. Special grounds are sick leave, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

The additional assessment criterion for this recruitment is (weighted equally):
• Demonstrated ability to secure research funding
• Ability to teach in Swedish and/or English
• Previous research experience related to PFAS.
Period of employment
For this employment, an employment period of four years applies.
Promotion to Senior Lecturer
An Associate Senior Lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to Senior Lecturer and a position until further notice. If the applicant is qualified for a position as Senior Lecturer and in an examination is deemed suitable for such a position, is determined in accordance with the assessment criteria set out below:
In the examination, it is required that the Associate Senior Lecturer has completed higher education pedagogical education corresponding to 7.5 credits or has acquired corresponding knowledge in another way.
During the employment period, the Associate Senior Lecturer must also independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, contribute to the university's research and demonstrate good pedagogical skills.
