Job description
The Department of Biology and Environmental Science at Linnaeus University is seeking an outstanding associate senior lecturer. The content of the employment is to consist mainly of research but could also offer good opportunities for pedagogical qualifying through teaching, supervising and development of new programs on different levels, as well as other pedagogical qualifying. The employment will focus on curtail environmental burden of fire incidents, health & safety concern and release of toxics during the whole waste management cycle (i.e. excavation, processing, treatment and/or recycling of deposited materials).The candidate will actively promote relevant research activities by establishing and maintaining links and partnerships with academia, Swedish industry and professional communities. The candidate will be involved in multi-disciplinary research, including behaviour science, environmental science, chemistry, statistics, computational fluid dynamics and environmental risk analysis. The candidate is also expected to develop the research field in collaboration with other research groups and will have an important research leadership role to develop high quality and productivity-driven national and international networks.The candidate is furthermore expected to keep track of the development within his/her own field of study, as well as any other societal development that are of importance to his/her work at the university.

Requirements - appointment career development
Qualified to apply is a person who has defended his/her doctoral thesis in either environmental engineering, chemical engineering, process engineering, fire safety engineering or waste management, or in other way has acquired the equivalent scientific skills. Primarily applicants who have defended their doctoral thesis or in other way acquired the equivalent skills no more than seven years before the application deadline are to be considered. (HF chap 4, section 12 a) In order to qualify for this appointment the candidate must also:


have experience of research related to issues of spontaneous fires in storage of, recyclables, waste fuels and woody biomass,


be able to perform real scale combustion tests,


have the ability to supervise students,


have experience of teaching at university level,


have a MSc or BSc in a relevant subject area, i.g. chemical or process engineering


have experience of curriculum development and administrative responsibilities


have a high proficiency in written and spoken English

Assessment grounds
Other assessment criteria are

• knowledge of land use planning in view of environmental hazards from industrial and waste storage sites.

• knowledge of the software's ArcGIS and Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS)
• proficiency in written and spoken Swedish

In the overall assessment of an applicant's skills, particular significance will be attached to the applicant's potential to have a successful career as a teacher and researcher.

Placement city until further notice: Kalmar, work at campus Växjö may be included
Scope of appointment: Limited, 4 years, full-time

In connection to any application for promotion, the following in particular will be taken into account:
In applications for promotion the ability to independently initiate and conduct research of high scientific quality and to obtain funding for research activities will be particularly evaluated. Other important assessment criteria are the frequency of publication in international peer-reviewed journals and the ability to independently establish collaborative research projects. The third significant area is documented proficiency in teaching and supervision at all levels (from BSc to PhD) and the capacity to integrate academic activities with the department's objectives in order to create a good work environment for staff and students.
