hela Sverige Nanologica AB, Stockholm, Sweden, is a material development company specializing in porous inorganic materials. An industrial PhD position is available at Nanologica to develop techniques for material synthesis for pilot scale production. The project will start in late 2013 or early 2014. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Division of Nanobiotechnology, Department of Applied Physics, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.
The project will include design and testing flow cells and microfluidic systems for the production of particles relevant to Nanologica?s commercial applications in pharmaceutical products. The work will include rational design of process production for tailoring the material properties and testing the properties and performance of the materials in industrially relevant tests. The work will rely heavily on analytical characterization methods including Nitrogen Sorption (BET), SEM and XRD techniques. The project will offer a motivated candidate a stimulating and rewarding multidisciplinary PhD, which will provide a broad and varied education.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Master in Material Science and a Diploma or Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Physics. The successful candidate has deep knowledge and practical industrial experience in synthesis of porous inorganic materials using templating agents and in particular the synthesis of mesoporous silica. Applicants should have experience from development of new porous inorganic materials as well as scaling up of synthesis protocols.
Applicants should have practical experience in running advanced characterization techniques such as Powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-Ray fluorescence (XRF), Electron Microscopy (SEM/TEM), Gas Adsorption Analysis, Thermal Analytical Methods (TGA/DSC/DTA), and Spectroscopic analysis (UV/IR), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) etc. Experience of working with nanofabrication technologies will be seen as a merit.
The applicant should have good academic English written and language skills. Applicants must be strongly motivated for doctoral studies, possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis as well as possessing good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities.
The PhD student will be registered at KTH and will be employed at Nanologica. Successful applicants are expected to develop and complete their PhD research project on a 4-year fulltime grant.
