Role Summary:

Come join us at GE Uppsala! A terrific opportunity to join a dynamic Additive Engineering team in the Bioprocess R&D department and to work on new product designs to incorporate the ability of how Additive Manufacturing technology can drive higher performance, quality and lower cost. The focus of the work will be to explore current third-party technologies for high resolution printing and potential applications in the Life Sciences industry.

Essential Responsibilities:

This position will be tightly aligned with application experts within GEHC Life Sciences R&D, the Additive process team and network of Additive labs within GEHC. Another key expectation is to be an advocate of additive and help spread the design for additive principles across the design team you are working with. Success will be measured on much we can transform our current designs to achieve product competitiveness in the eyes of our customers.

Key responsibilities/essential functions include:
• Collaborate with Additive Process Engineers and material experts to evaluate appropriate additive third-party technologies for high resolution printing and develop solutions for additive designs/applications
• Lead design activities from idea submission to concept development through product feasibility, hands on experiments and evaluations.
• Identify and write patent applications (with support from our patent attorneys)
• Evaluate SW tools for high resolution printing and collaborate with external and internal experts to find feasible solutions.
• Support engineering teams across Life Sciences to identify customer requirements and translate them into product requirements. Collaborate with sourcing and manufacturing teams to evaluate new additive technologies and suppliers.
• Leverage and expand network of experts across Life Sciences to drive best practice sharing, knowledge transfer, training and awareness of Additive capabilities.

Quality Specific Goals:
• Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
• Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
• Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
• Knowledge and understanding of document control, design transfer, verification, validation, acceptance activity, DMR, DHR and electronic signature requirements to ensure that product, equipment, tools, processes, software, training and documentation meet requirements.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• B.S. Degree in Mechanical, or related technical degree and significant experience.
• Prior experience in the field of additive manufacturing.
• Prior experience in the field of polymer materials.
• Strong working knowledge of CAD systems and CAD file management (e.g. Creo, Solidworks).
• Demonstrated troubleshooting, analytical and planning skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills (written and verbal) to all levels of the organization.
• Willing to travel domestic and internationally up to 25% of the time.

Desired Characteristics:

• MS/PHD in technical concentration/field
• Major experience in Mechanical Engineering
• Domain expertise in the field of additive manufacturing and biocompatible polymer technologies
• Knowledge of the additive SW workflow (file and printer preparation)
• Domain expertise in process intensive manufacturing (e.g. machining, joining & forming, injection molding, etc.)
• Experience working with global teams.
• Working knowledge of technical simulations.
• Product and process development experience, preferably in the Life Sciences business.
• Solid working knowledge of procedures for Good Manufacturing Practice.
• Demonstrated program or project management skills.
• Demonstrated experience owning production processes / growing capability in yield and quality.
