This role is primarily responsible for ensuring that prospective customers and their Early Vendor Development teams will be managed to ensure H2 product quality systems are developed/maintained in a mutually beneficial manner. The VP of CD/QA is responsible for ensuring commercial and operational considerations are made when developing a new customer with high-quality product requirements. This role will work closely with the technical team to optimize mill production.
Provide leadership and guidance on developing the best customers and markets for mill product ramp-up and ultimate market/product mix evolution.
Manage and oversee product quality to ensure compliance to codes, standards, regulations, equipment specifications, QC labs and QMS requirements.
Advancing quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization.
Managing the development and implementation of the QMS and team for customer facing activities as primarily internal focused order dressing, product inspection, documentation, and operations activities including:
Planning duties within the QA/QC staff and related work schedules;
Establishing service standards for end users (i.e., internal department or external customer);
Identifying and developing QA/QC personnel certification requirements and continuing education/training needs.
Providing leadership, mentorship, and direction of all QA/QC personnel.
Participating in commercial leadership team activities and act as the commercial liaison to operation and technical teams
Managing the development and implementation of Field Technical Services team activities including coordinating customer audits, Handle field claims, Technical and product support to sales personnel, Establish secondary and down grade parameters and policies
Manage ongoing QA internally and externally with product bulletins for both audiences.
Identify and develop solutions to correct highest claim rate items on a monthly basis.
Certification, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements
Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with all internal, regulatory authorities and csutomers.
Strong coordination and organization skills, with strict emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
20+ years working experience and knowledge in operations, product development and quality systems.
Must have a minimum of 7 years of recent experience managing a quality department or similar organization with minimum of 5 direct reports.
Must have an engineering degree from an accredited university.
Advance knowledge of carbon steel grades across all major markets (EU and US), including auto, appliance, metal building, HVAC, re-rolling, etc.
Must have overseen quality system audits by auto, pipe and tube and other high quality demanding steel applications.
Must have previously developed or overseen the launch of a new QMS/TQS at a carbon steel mill.
Ability to develop and manage non-conformance, deficiencies, and reporting programs, including root cause analysis.
Advanced knowledge of project specific documentation related to new equipment turnover for installation, inspection, testing, repairs, and alterations.
Ensure a safe work environment.
Strong management and interpersonal/communication skills. Prior success in working effectively with senior scientific, medical, commercial and operations staff.
Additional consideration will be given to:
Steel mill experience in both BOF and minimill, with most experience in minimills.
Experience with managing field engineering and cross functional activities with sales personnel.
Experience in project planning, execution (including construction realities), management, and communication with all departments in a minimill steel company.
Familiar with laboratory requirements for steel mill operations.
