As the Business Controller - Design to cost coach for heavy duty products (HD), you are involved in the very early phases of product development (Advanced Engineering (AE) and pre-study phases); with the main goal to ensure a competitive cost base for Volvo Powertrain (VPT) products.
You should achieve this by being the primary project resource for product cost, to allow feature balancing, and concept selections. You will also be the attribute leader for cost (HD), and as such, you are responsible for establishing top down targets, as well as breaking these down, to support customer, PPL, project and the AE. An important tool to allow this is to perform teardown benchmarks of strategic competitor products.
Your responsibilities are:
Set project product cost targets, as an outcome of a strong cooperation with the customers, to meet our profitability targets
Coach project/BP-teams to achieve high cost transparency prior to Concept Gate
Understanding of cost drivers for new features/ functions and using this to make business cases; balancing of cost vs. features
Perform system cost analysis in AE, from the TR gate and onwards
Be a valued member of the network consisting of Cost Engineering (GVM), Product Cost Controllers (PCC) and Best Practice Costing, to make sure we work closely, and cover all aspects of product cost, throughout the entire lifetime of our products
Benchmarking (competitors and within the group)
Challenge the status quo (existing designs, offerings, suppliers, etc.)
Support CPM Maintenance to find new cost ratio ideas
Truly believe in the formation of a ?cost-culture? within Volvo, and support the ongoing initiative to reach automotive industry benchmarks in cost focus and methods (called World Class Cost Management within VPT)
Required Competencies:
Energy and passion to lead the organization towards World Class Cost Management
Strong communication skills and networking abilities
Fluent in English, written as well as spoken
Systems thinking
Wanted skills (if you do not already have them, be prepared to acquire them fast):
Good knowledge about product cost calculations and profitability calculations
Good understanding of the commercial vehicle industry and a good knowledge of the Volvo Powertrain products
Product development process experience (Within Volvo Group; GDP process proficiency)
AE process proficiency
Project management
Technical understanding of the Powertrain products
We believe you need a genuine technical interest to enjoy this position.
Minimum Years of Experience Required:
Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience
Education:
Master's degree in Engineering and/ or Business administration
(Keywords: Target costing, Kaizen costing, va/ve (Value added/Value Engineering, benchmarking, business control, business case)
