Virtual Environment Development at Powertrain Control

At Research & Development you will be a key contributor in the development of the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers around the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. Are you interested in active safety? Do you share our passion for people, the environment and our urge to create a superior driving experience? If yes, then Research and Development is the place for you to prosper.

The section Strategy and Concepts within the department Complete Powertrain Engineering is responsible for developing concepts and system solutions for propulsion systems including hybrid systems in Volvo Car Corporation vehicles and Powertrain control systems. The section consists of about 20 individuals working with systems engineering, concept development, advanced engineering projects and development of virtual environments for HIL and SIL (Hardware In the Loop and Software In the Loop).

The group Virtual Test Environments expands and now looks for an engineer to work in our HIL team. HIL development covers the need for a virtual test and calibration environment as a complement to test vehicles. We do however move our positions forward and will even further reduce number of test vehicles. Our strategy to meet an increased need of virtual environments is to strengthen the capability with regards to both complexity and volume. This is where we need you!

As HIL engineer you will develop a system solution for a virtual environment. This includes integration of both mechanical and electrical hardware, control software and models, all running in real time. You will then verify functionality and deliver it as a test tool for test and calibration engineers. You will also partake in the development of models of physical engine and transmission systems. These models will be used in both our HIL and our SIL environments, as well as in other environments throughout the company. Another important task is the development of test methods, the more automated the better. You will work closely with engineers from all over Powertrain, and be part of a network of HIL engineers in other departments.

• Develop system solutions for HIL simulators with respect to engine and transmission control systems
• Maintain and troubleshoot existing applications
• Calibration and validation of powertrain models
• Support design and test engineers
• Method development for HIL testing of engine and transmission control systems
• Test automation
• High quality documentation that supports traceability and redesign

Required qualifications

• Master of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Applied Physics, Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent

• Experience of engine control systems
• Experience of calibration/parameter setting
• Experience of measurement technology
• Experience of tools: Modelling in Dymola, scripts in Python
• Knowledge and passion for documentation, traceability and results with high quality

Personal qualities

• Thorough, methodical and structured
• Have the ability to work independent but also enjoy being a part of the development team
• Trouble-shooter, target oriented, and long-term committed
