Over the past years, the Research and Development Management (RDM) Team has focused on organizational development. Major efforts have been put into involving the organization in strategy implementation, building transparency of career paths through an R&D Expert Career Model and building the leadership capability. Additional focus has been on building an automation backbone, a stronger innovation climate and most recently, turning the R&D Strategy towards building capability in eight specific areas including R&D Functional Leadership, to mention one. This has led to a high organizational readiness for the next step in terms of both innovation and efficient development.

Research and development activities are currently performed in 8 units within Seco, of which four are directly reporting to the VP R&D and four others are reporting within the Marketing and Product Lines organization. The direct reporting units are located in Sweden, India and France. The total R&D forces amounts to some 220 people. The totality of the R&D organization is led by the R&D Management Team (RDM) having the VP R&D as chair. The RDM consist of 9 people including an HRBP position. We are now looking for someone to take on the position as Vice President for R&D and leading the RDM Team - an energetic and connected frontrunner who embraces innovation. While the location for this position is flexible within Europe, a significant part of your time is required at Seco HQ in Fagersta, Sweden and extensive international travelling is a natural part of this job. In this position, you are member of Seco Executive Management team and report directly to the President of Seco Tools.

Going forward, your main mission is to transform the RDM team and the R&D organization to become a more output-oriented functional unit. Your organizational focus is on change implementation and increased transparency from the capability areas - making the results visible to the entire organization. Within the area of Engineering, which has transformed in size and experienced a rapidly increased demand for product information, a combined effort to put engineering automation platforms into place is continually evolving. Your mission here is to identify synergies and work towards stronger horizontal integrations between functions, which stretches outside the traditional R&D remit.

You are also challenged with driving the development of our way-of-working within Automation - ensuring early on in product development phases that automation remains in focus to enable a pull effect throughout the process chain and enhanced understanding for these solutions through various key parts of the organization. Another key challenge is working with recent Seco investments in rapidly developing technology areas, such as additive manufacturing and sensor technology, where your mission is to develop and implement strategies for growth and development of these high-technological areas. Furthermore, you have overall responsibility for ensuring the success of overcoming the challenges within Product Management through maintaining a stable level of delivery and working towards decreasing delivery times, focusing on portfolio management, as well as building and improving the communication between Marketing and Product Lines, R&D, Production and Sales. Leveraging your network is key and you take the lead in building an agile and networked organization, ensuring synergies and efficiency across functions and regions.

Your profile
For this position, we are looking for someone with a strong industrial R&D background and a successful track record from senior leadership positions where your people management skills have made a true difference. To succeed in this position, you have previous experience from a digital R&D transformation journey from within ours or adjacent industry. As we act in an international setting, your communication skills in English must be excellent, both verbally and in writing.

We recognize and value your passion and personality combined with the ability to lead change and engage stakeholders. You have a clear holistic mindset as you consider both visionary and strategic aspects on multiple levels and with a process mindset, you successfully drive both development, implementation and integration of R&D strategies and ways of working. With your strong leadership abilities and your belief that teams and networks are the way to produce results and succeed, you continue the journey of developing the leadership capabilities within the R&D organization. With an open mind, you embrace modern innovation, inspiring employees to be engaged in areas outside their normal expertise, capturing value through other perspectives.

You act with integrity and are genuinely engaged in leading and inspiring people in a matrix environment, championing leadership based on coaching and communication; you steadily build trust and commitment in the organization. You understand the value of diversity and inclusion to build performing teams. Through not hesitating when making decisions, even in times of uncertainty, and with a business minded attitude, you set ambitious targets, deliver on promises and follow through.

We actively work to create a workplace that is characterized by diversity and inclusion.
