The Department of Disease Control and Epidemiology is responsible for the design, execution and analysis of animal health surveillance at national level. The Department is organized in two units with focus on epizootic diseases and non-epizootic zoonoses. Regular tasks involve expert advice on disease control and biosecurity issues, compilation and analysis of data from disease surveillance, evaluation of surveillance, reporting to national and international authorities as well as research and methodological development in the subject area.

As a part of our commitment within an upcoming collaborative EU project funded within FP7, on the development and evaluation of scientific methodologies for cost-effective risk-based animal health surveillance, we need to strengthen our team with additional staff and we are therefore seeking a

with a strong interest in animal health surveillance. The project is linked to the development of national surveillance policy and it will therefore also include transfer of output from the project into the design, implementation and evaluation of national surveillance within the remit of the institute.

The position will have main responsibility for the execution of tasks related to the project, supported by the institute?s project team. The role within the project will be to co-lead one of the work packages devoted to tools aimed at optimizing surveillance of endemic disease, as well as risk-based surveillance designs where there are several competing objectives (e.g. in terms of agents targeted), so called multi-objective surveillance.
The position will also be involved in other tasks within the overall responsibility of the Department, according to the competence profile of the appointee.

The person we are looking for holds a PhD and is likely to have an undergraduate training within the field of veterinary medicine, animal science and/or biostatistics and postgraduate training in epidemiology. Previous involvement in surveillance planning, implementation and/or evaluation is a merit, as are project management skills and experience with systematic reviews. We seek a team player with good interpersonal skills who delivers in a focused and proactive manner. It is a requirement that you are comfortable with expressing yourself in English, both in writing and orally. Knowledge of Swedish, Norwegian or Danish is a plus, but not a requirement.

Starting date for the position is anticipated to be between 1 September and 1 November 2012, to be agreed upon.
