At Active Safety & Chassis we are responsible for initiating and driving Research and Development of Chassis Systems, Safety Functions and Electronics as well as Vehicle Dynamics Attributes on all Volvo Car Groups cars. Trough passionate and innovative co-workers we create chassis systems and integrated safety systems that make us leading within Driving Dynamics and Active safety Our scope is: Brake Systems, Steering Systems, Wheels & Tyres, Wheel Suspension and Safety Functions and Electronics, Development and Verification of Steering, Handling, Ride, Brake Performance and Mechanical Integration. We are VCG's competence centre of Vehicle Dynamics & Active Safety. The group Vehicle Dynamics are responsible for developing the attributes Ride, Handling, Steering and Mechanical Integration. We are 20 highly motivated individuals that develop requirements and methods, plan, lead and develop the required attribute levels in all projects and act as spokespersons for Vehicle Dynamics.
We are now searching for a new Development Engineer Vehicle Dynamics. You will be part of a small passionate team that strives to deliver a world class driving experience in our future products. A large part of the development work has historically been performed in a prototype vehicle on various test tracks and surfaces, but the challenge today is to shorten development time and decrease the dependency of these prototypes. Your responsibility as a development engineer in the Vehicle Dynamics team will be to develop the Ride, Handling and Steering attribute levels in vehicle prototypes of differing maturity, from completely virtual in our driving simulator to factory built customer cars, on proving grounds and public roads, with the final goal of reaching a specification of all concerned systems and components for production that meets or exceeds the target. Much of the work is performed at different locations all over the world so there is possibly a large amount of travel.
Main responsibilities
• Prepare, perform and report attribute development in current projects
• Being a team expert in diagnosing and solving electrical and software issues in the team's prototype vehicles
• Preparation of the vehicle / test-rig / CAE-model
• Ensure that the test object is correctly specified in both hardware and software
• Perform advanced driving for tests that are critical in execution quality, sometimes in highly dynamic manoeuvres' on the vehicles handling limit
Required qualifications
• M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering or Control Engineering / Mechatronics or equivalent
• Analytical knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics
• Fluent in English
• PhD in the automotive area is meritorious
• Previous experience with Vehicle Dynamics or Active Safety development will be an asset
• Knowledge of CAN-based diagnostic tools is meritorious
• Strong driving skills is meritorious
