You will be part of ABB Mechanical Design (VM) in Ludvika, a department within High Voltage Direct Current. We are responsible for mechanical design of converter valves. Our unit has 21 co-workers, a few of whom are working at our office in Chennai, India. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems. Please find out more about our world leading technology at www.abb.com/hvdc .
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take part in the design of order projects or development projects. The order projects are primarily large and spans over several years. HVDC's delivery is worth billions of SEK and as Designer, you will be involved in the projects six to twelve months. At the moment, we have three to four active order projects and two to three development projects running parallel. You will design in NX/Team Center environment, generate lists of material and handle purchasing data.

Mechanical Design is responsible for design of converter valves, a key component in HVDC facilities. The valve consists of more than 15 000 components and is a complex product which requires several years' experience before the technique can be mastered fully. There are only a few people with that competence in the world, and you will find a number of them at ABB in Ludvika. You will work with technically challenging products which spans over several technological areas - for example heat transferring, electrical insulation, strength and material technology. Some areas of focus is stress calculation according to international cod/standard, heat transfer and thermal management of electronic devices and seismic qualification according to international code/standard.

You hold a university degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, to which you have added at least a couple of years' experience within Mechanical Design. You are proficient in use of ANSYS software suite, including most of its FE & CFD packages used in an industrial environment. You are also used to working in 3D-CAD, ideally NX. Since our business language is English and you will have many international contacts, it is crucial that you have good knowledge in verbal and written English. Naturally, you are proficient in computers, and it is preferable if you have good knowledge in TeamCenter and/or SAP. You are probably working as designer either within manufacturing or the electrical power industry today.

It is also very positive if you have strong self-learning skills and strong collaboration capabilities and the ability to quickly adapt simulation to various multi-physical technical scenarios. It is also good if you have experience of high voltage products. We constantly have to meet common goals, which requires that you are efficient. Naturally, you are also a responsible individual who understands complex systems.
