hela Sverige Lund University announces an opening for a Senior University Lecturer in Experimental Nuclear Physics at the Division of Nuclear Physics, Department of Physics. The Division of Nuclear Physics at the Department of Physics belongs to both the Faculty
of Science and the Faculty of Engineering. The division today has 19 senior scientists, of which 8 are professors, and more than 10 PhD students. Research is funded by bodies such as the Swedish Research Council, The Formas Research Council, and the EU, and is focused on experimental nuclear physics, applied nuclear physics and aerosol physics. The division collaborates with a number of departments within Lund University, with other
Swedish and foreign universities, and with industry.
Description of the position:
The main duties will be research directed towards the European consolidation in Nuclear Physics, in the recently started FAIR project, "Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research", in
Darmstadt, Germany, especially participation in the division's undertakings in NUSTAR, "Nuclear Structure, Astrophysics and Reactions", a subproject of FAIR. In the long term, the focus of experimental nuclear physics at the division will be divided between two main activities, namely research using radioactive ion beams at FAIR/NUSTAR and detector and system development within a common department/faculty instrumentation group. The appointee must be very active in applying for external funding since the position is to a large extent externally funded, as is now common at the department. The work also includes teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level, supervising PhD students, as well as administrative duties. Qualifications
The required qualifications for appointment as a senior university lecturer are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1998:1003).
1. A doctorate or corresponding academic qualifications, or other professional skills that are of value with regard to the subject concerned and the duties that the position will involve
2.Completion of a course in teaching and learning in higher education or corresponding knowledge acquired in some other way
3. Documented teaching skills
Today, research and postgraduate studies at the University are largely based on the ability and competence of the individual researcher to obtain external funding, including his or her
own salary. Hence, a documented capability to obtain research grants in national and international competition is a requirement.
In the assessment of applicants, scientific competence and teaching skills define the primary assessment criteria, with the emphasis on scientific competence. Competence at the level of
senior researcher/lecturer in one of the relevant areas will be deemed especially meritorious, as will documented experience of initiating and leading nuclear physics experiments in an
international environment. Special importance will be placed on documented experience of experimental studies with radioactive ion beams and experience as the main supervisor for
doctoral and Masters students in the field.
