The Department of Design is located in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, which is one of Linnaeus University's five faculties. The faculty offers a dynamic, flexible and international learning environment with both scientific and artistic activities in a wide range of fields. At the Department of Design, we offer programmes and courses which provide the student with sound knowledge of design and a solid foundation in the field of sustainability. Tuition takes place in teams whereby different teachers with practical, theoretical and artistic perspectives teach together. Via our research, the department contributes to sustainable societal development.

Duties
Your main duty is to use teaching and research as tools to develop students and colleagues' understanding of art and design practices and their impact on people's living conditions in line with the department's focus on sustainability, curiosity and art and design as catalysts for change. Competence in the field of visual communication and, in particular, moving images is considered a particular merit, as is experience in experimental, performative and creative-critical writing practices.

The employee follows and supports the development of art and design practices and associated disciplines such as art and design history and theory, with special emphasis on sustainability and social engagement. Experience of working with issues around gender and social sustainability is considered of particular importance. As an employee, you will actively participate in the Department of Design's internal and external work.

One of your duties is to conduct education in design on Bachelor's level to Master's level and to act as a programme coordinator with responsibility for a specific programme. Another of your duties as an employee is to participate in the development of all of the department's design programmes.

The position includes conducting research in line with the department's research platform and applying for external funding.

The applicant is expected to participate in transdisciplinary development work within Lnu and with other actors, and to be able to work effectively across critical theoretical and creative artistic practice.

Qualifications
To be eligible for the position of Senior Lecturer in an artistic field, you must have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency. You must also have obtained a PhD in the arts, demonstrated artistic ability or have some other professional competence of relevance when taking into account the subject content of the position and the duties which it will include (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, Section 4).

In accordance with Linnaeus University employment regulations, "pedagogical proficiency" refers to the planning, conducting and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination.

Artistic ability must have been demonstrated via a documented or recognised high level of artistic and professional ability, and must show a reflective approach to professional practice.

To be qualified for this position, the applicant must also have a well-developed ability to cooperate and a proficiency to utilise an understanding of the synergies between theory and design practice in teaching, research and other work.

The Department's programmes are mostly in English, meaning that an ability to and experience of communicating in English, orally and in writing, is required.

We consider the following assessment criteria to be of high priority:

The proficiency required for the position's eligibility requirements shall constitute the assessment criteria for the appointment of a Senior Lecturer. The examination of pedagogical proficiency will be given the same weight as the examination of artistic ability.

The Department of Design has a focus on sustainability, and we view experience of design work and sound orientation in sustainability as a great advantage.
