The Joint Faculties of the Humanities and Theology have eight departments and carries out large and varied work within research and education with the purpose to understand people as cultural and social beings. The faculties have some 700 employees and around 4000 students.

The Centre for Languages and Literature at Lund University (SOL) is Sweden's largest university department for languages, linguistics, literature and area studies. SOL provides a wide range of freestanding courses complemented with an increasing number of first and second cycle degree programmes. Housing 33 subjects and roughly the same number of PhD programmes, SOL is a solid foundation for broad and deep education and research, characterised by national and international visibility. SOL is managed by a board chaired by the Head of Department. The management also includes two assistant heads of department with special areas of responsibility. More than 250 people are employed and around 3 000 students, including around 100 PhD students, conduct their studies at SOL.



SOL offers Japanese from a beginner's level to second cycle studies, which is within the framework of the Master's programme in Language and Linguistics.

The number of applicants has been very high in recent years. There are good opportunities for students to apply for grants and spend one or two semesters studying at a university in Japan.

Duties
The position's duties mainly comprise teaching, but to some extent professional development and other duties are also included in the position. The position entails teaching Japanese from a beginner's level to first cycle studies, with a focus on courses in communication skills. Teaching is conducted on campus, at both day and evening sessions. The position may also include course development of both new and existing courses.

Japanese language skills comparable to first language proficiency is a requirement, as is the ability to teach in English from the first day of employment and in Swedish within two years.

Qualifications
To be qualified for appointment as a lecturer the applicant should have:

- demonstrated teaching expertise,
- completed a second-cycle degree or acquired corresponding knowledge,
- acquired other skills of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve and
- completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

The following assessment criteria apply:

- Good subject knowledge of relevance to the post and the duties that it will involve.
- Good teaching ability including a good ability to develop and pursue educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
- Very good professional experience or other experience of relevance to the post.

Specific additional qualifications (in order of priority):

- Previous experience of teaching the subject at university level, in particular on courses in oral language skills.
- Broad experience of teaching Japanese at different levels.
- Good ability to cooperate.
- Good ability to teach as part of a teaching team comprising several lecturers.
