About Fingerprints
Fingerprints is a Swedish biometric company with headquarter in Göteborg that markets, develops and produces biometric components and technologies that through the analysis and matching of an individual's unique fingerprint verify the person's identity. The technology consists of biometric sensors, processors, algorithms and modules. Fingerprints engages around 550 dedicated people at offices in Göteborg, Malmö, Linköping, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei and Silicon Valley. Fingerprints shares are noted on Nasdaq OMX Stockholm.

At Fingerprints you will be working with the latest technology in a dynamic international environment, in a company under rapid development. You will be empowered with responsibilities and decision paths that are short and fast. Our people are engaged and each individual is important since our joint efforts contribute to our success. www.fingerprints.com

Fingerprints are seeking an Ultrasound Engineer to strengthen our R&D team in developing future fingerprint systems for mobile phones and other portable devices.

Fingerprints is a world leader capacitive fingerprint sensing and is expanding its technology portfolio to include alternative sensing techniques including ultrasonic sensing.

The role

As an Ultrasound Engineer, you will contribute to our research and development efforts on novel ultrasonic fingerprint sensing. You will take part in design, modeling, fabrication, and characterization of next-generation ultrasound-based fingerprint sensors. Your focus, however, will be on the characterization of ultrasonic sensors both electrically as well as acoustically. You will also have a key role in designing the necessary experiments and putting together the measurement setups. You will use the measurement data to evaluate the performance of the sensor and will compile performance reports as well as recommendations for improvements.

You are expected to spend time on investigating state-of-the-art ultrasonic sensing technologies through attending conferences, reviewing publications, and patent analysis. You are also expected to participate in development of Fingerprints' IP portfolio to secure the long-term competitiveness of the company.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Evaluate acoustic performance of Fingerprints' ultrasonic sensor through designing, implementing, and running characterization experiments.
• Carry out theoretical assessments and modeling (such as finite element models) to understand and to evaluate the acoustic performance.
• Compile ultrasonic performance reports and enhancement recommendations.
• Take an active role in running and maintaining the Ultrasonic Lab.
• Work closely with customers and act as point of contact for the Ultrasound group.
• Take an active role in analyzing patents and relevant IPs within the field.
• Take part in developing and filing new ideas.

This role is interdisciplinary and you will work in a cross-functional team during development of new sensors. The work location is Gothenburg.

International travel to Fingerprints' suppliers, partners, and customers may occur.

Your background

You have an industrial experience in measurement and characterization of sensors. It is an advantage if you have previously worked within the field of ultrasound, acoustics, sonar, radar, non-destructive testing (NDT), medical imaging, or similar. Previous involvement in developing ultrasonic sensors or systems is a big plus. You are proficient in numerical analysis tools such as MATLAB. You are familiar with finite element simulation and preferably have worked with programs such as COMSOL, ANSYS, or PZFlex.

This role requires a Master of Science in Engineering, such as in electronics, applied physics, acoustics, or similar. A flair and a passion for setting up accurate lab verification experiments and critically evaluating measurements against predictions is an important skill. Previous industrial experience is a big advantage. With the right profile, less experienced candidates will be considered as well.

Success in this role requires:

• Industrial experience in characterization and measurement of sensors.
• Good understanding of ultrasound science and engineering. A background within ultrasonic or acoustics is considered a big plus.
• Preferably hands-on experience in characterizing ultrasonic sensors or systems.
• Being proficient in MATLAB.
• Being familiar and preferably have worked with Finite Element Modeling programs such as COMSOL, ANSYS, or PZFlex.
• Previous experience from medical ultrasonic imaging is an advantage.
• Analytical mindset and ability to quickly learn new areas and understand new technologies.
• Interest and an aptitude for working with everything from technical details to broader system engineering.

You need to be fluent in spoken and written English and not opposed to traveling abroad.

You also have essential qualities such as being ambitious, motivated and flexible. You need to be comfortable working in a growing company, where you will be expected to assume considerable personal responsibility for your own activities and the company's success. This also requires you to be a team player who contributes to an open and positive atmosphere in the workplace.

Application

We would like to have your application and CV as soon as possible, but not later than April 29th, 2018. Your application will be handled by our HR Business Partner R&D Bettina Sörstedt.
