What you'll do
As a UI Engineer at Mentimeter you will be an integral part of our Design System Team, working closely with developers and designers to build the foundation of user experiences that will affect millions of people all over the world.
Our design system Ragnar was created in 2018 and is used by all product teams at Mentimeter. Ragnar is built in React, using typescript and a CSS-in-JS solution powered by Fela and styled-system. It started as a grass-roots project and now we have a small dedicated team working on it. As one of two developers in the team, you will help create, maintain and document new components and evolve our ways of working with the design system. We have a lot of fun challenges coming up, including fundamental aspects that impact the whole design system that you have the opportunity to impact.
Skills & Requirements
Who are you?
We are looking for a UI engineer / front end web developer who is passionate about creating design systems that empower product teams to create their best work. You love creating structure, writing clean code that is used by many, while also being humble to the needs of the organization and the teams that use it. Product teams are ultimately your users, and you care deeply about making them both effective and feel empowered through the things you create.
You have over 3 years of experience working with modern UI development for the web, combined with a solid understanding of React and experience working with Typescript. You should be curious about how to build fast, intuitive and well performing user interfaces, and care about both code quality and well-designed experiences.
We also believe that you have previous experience contributing to a design system - or at the very least have experience of using a design system in a product company context. Your understanding of how changing the system affects both developers and the products they build is a key component to making good decisions in this role. You are a reliable, high-performing individual contributor with a strong sense of self-leadership.
You have a knack for thinking in systems and see consistency as a key perspective to your role.
If you have experience working with accessibility that is a huge plus, as our products are used by millions of users with different needs, across the world. Working with packages to distribute code to teams is also something we consider as a merit.
Excellent communication skills and being able to work both independently and in a team are some other traits we are looking for in all of our colleagues. You will be an internal ambassador for the design system and help others become power users of it, so creating connections with other teams is key.
