The Linnaeus Centre on Social Policy and Family Dynamics in Europe announces two two-year positions for researchers in an early stage of their academic career.
The positions are for the period 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2010 or as otherwise agreed. The researchers are expected to bring with them plans for their own research linked to the Centre’s research agenda, to collaborate intensively with Centre members on ongoing research projects and to participate in the intellectual life of the Centre.
The Linnaeus Centre on Social Policy and Family Dynamics in Europe is a research program financed for 2008-2018 by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet). It is administered at the Stockholm University Demography Unit (SUDA), Department of Sociology and led by Professor of Demography Elizabeth Thomson and Associate Professor Gunnar Andersson. The Centre brings together expertise in policy studies and demography from SUDA, the Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI) and the Department of Human Geography and collaborates with scholars from throughout Europe. The overarching goal is to produce the best evidence for social policy effects on fertility and family change and to communicate this evidence to policy makers and the public.
The Centre’s research is to a large extent based on individual-level data of life-course histories linked to change and variation in social policies and other relevant social contexts. The research also involves the production and use of databases with macro-level indicators of policy contexts.
Applicants must have a PhD level academic degree and be fluent in both spoken and written English. They are expected to be able to perform high level research and publish in international refereed journals. Employment criteria include the degree to which the applicant’s research plan supports the Centre’s overall goals and provides opportunities for collaboration in the Centre’s ongoing research programme.
The positions will be filled for a fixed term of two years. Salaries are commensurate with those for Assistant Professors in Sweden but may be adjusted based on an applicant’s individual experience and merits.
The application must include the following documents:
• research plan (3 pages) - curriculum vitae, including publication list
• copies of degree certificates - two recommendation letters
• other relevant documents.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to consult with Centre members about their current and future research agendae. Contact information and links to members’ research programs are provided at www.suda.su.se
