Two postdoctoral positions, funded for up to two years each, are available at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Gothenburg. The work will be devoted to understand the mechanisms of DNA replication in mammalian mitochondria, using in vitro biochemistry and cell biology techniques. The work may involve collaborations with clinicians, mouse geneticist, and biophysical chemists.
Position I, Perm 2011/269, will concern studies of new regulatory factors, which direct mitochondrial DNA replication in mammalian cells.
Position II, Perm 2011/270, will concern the mechanisms by which DNA replication is initiated and terminated in mammalian mitochondria.

Skills: We are looking for highly motivated people who wish to develop their own projects. A Ph.D., not more than 3 years old, in experimental biochemistry or molecular biology is required. In the project, we will investigate the molecular mechanisms that govern initiation of DNA synthesis in human mitochondria. Previous experience from research using purified proteins and/or characterization of DNA replication in vitro or in vivo is therefore a strong merit.
The research group: The Institute of Biomedicin offers an excellent research environment with a broad range of projects spanning from the molecular biology of mitochondria to clinical studies. The DNA replication group, which is headed by professor Maria Falkenberg, consists of three Ph.D. students, two postdocs and one technician. Work in the Falkenberg laboratory is supported by the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Cancer Foundation, and the European Research Council.
