hela Sverige The research group Urban water systems at Luleå University of Technology is seeking two PhD candidates within the fields of urban water governance and water supply and risk assessments.
The positions will comprise research within the research field of sanitary engineering. Luleå University of technology has a strong position concerning research and education within the urban water sector dealing with aspects of storm water, drinking water, wastewater and sewers. The research focus is storm water xxx and sustainable wastewater systems and the overall aim of the research is to contribute to a development of sustainable urban water systems.
Urban water management in cities is a critical issue that is becoming even more important due to the effects of climate change and increasing urbanisation. One of the difficulties of effectively managing water systems in urban areas is the complexity, not only of the highly modified hydrological system, but the associated human and governance systems.
Position 1:
The focus of this position will be on exploring the implications of a complexity/resilience approach for the governance of urban water systems. Of particular interest is how urban water considerations are taken into account in spatial planning processes.
Candidates for this position must have an academic background in planning and environmental science and significant professional experience associated with urban water management and planning. The candidate should have documented Master degree within the field of environmental science (or equivalent degree).
Position 2:
The focus of this position will be on develop and test strategies for safe water supply including risk assessment with scenario analyses and early warning systems for detecting pollutions in water catchment areas and in water works.
Candidates for this position must have an academic background in water and hydrology and significant professional experience associated with risk assessment and urban water. The candidate should have documented Master degree within the field of Environmental and hydrology science (or equivalent degree).
