Candidates are expected to work on one of the following topics:
1. Outdoor recreation is an important activity for many people in Sweden. Increasingly it is commercialized into nature-based tourism, and thus offers viable opportunities for entrepreneurs as well as it brings possibilities for economic development in some regions. The current issues and debates among stakeholders and researchers, not only in Sweden but also internationally concern the economic impacts of nature-based tourism in destination communities and how nature-based tourism and its impacts are managed not least in relation to climate change. The successful PhD candidate is expected to continue this strand of research by using survey data and doing interviews with key stakeholders.

dieter.muller@geography.umu.se2. Europeans are on the move. Particularly the temporary and seasonal international movement of people has however been neglected. One important form of this mobility is related to second homes. There is pertinent evidence that second homes are desired and purchased, nevertheless basic statistics and scientific theories on international second home mobility are lacking. In this PhD-project the successful candidate is expected to analyze current flows and destinations of second home mobility within Europe with particular focus on flows outgoing from Sweden. The candidate will be working in close contact to a research group specialized in second home research. Familiarity with GIS and quantitative methods is favourable.
