Job Description
AECOM is currently seeking a Design Manager for our transportation team.
As a design manager, you are driven to actively work with design coordination in a multidisciplinary environment. In your role as a design manager, you will be responsible for and lead design work together with our design team. The role involves close collaboration with the client and project organization management, where you support in driving scheduling, quality assurance, and risk management, among other tasks.
You will have the opportunity to work on some of the most interesting and largest infrastructure projects in Sweden within road and rail. We have a strongly international environment, and English is used daily as we work on our projects together with colleagues around the world (primarily in Europe).
Responsibilities in the role of Design Manager at AECOM:
Act as the representative of AECOM's design team towards the Client.
Serve as the primary point of contact between the client and the design organisation, ensuring continuous communication and alignment of objectives.
Develop and maintain the design management plan, including scope definitions, deliverable lists, and key milestones.
Coordinate with project planners, risk managers, and cost controllers to integrate design progress into overall project reporting.
Facilitate design reviews, technical workshops, and interface coordination meetings.
Identify and communicate overarching Client Requirements to AECOM's team and monitor their implementation and fulfillment.
Coordinate and host meetings with the Client.
Coordinate and lead internal design meetings with Package/Discipline Leads.
Identify and monitor interface management between different technical disciplines.
Perform quality assurance of produced deliverables and ensure that all documentation is well coordinated across disciplines.
Identify, communicate and manage project changes.
Ensure that design risks are identified, documented, and mitigated through proactive actions.
Drive design efficiency and innovation, promoting value engineering and constructability considerations.
Liaise with Contractors and construction teams to resolve design queries and support site activities.
Manage the performance of internal teams and subconsultants, including resource allocation and progress reporting.
Prepare and present progress reports, design schedules, and risk dashboards to the client and project leadership.
Support opportunities for upselling additional services or expanding AECOM's role through proactive Client engagement.
Contribute to internal business development, coaching junior staff, and sharing best practices within the organisation.
Travel may be required both to the project location in country and to design offices out of country.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
University (Masters) degree in Civil Engineering
At least 15 year's work experience
At least 5 years as Design Manager/Design Coordinator/Technical Lead in multidisciplinary infrastructure projects with a focus on earthworks comprising hard rock excavation and/or tunnels (NATM)
Excellent English (working language)
Merited Qualifications:
Experience in Construction stage site follow-up
Experience preparing tender and construction documents for execution contracts (Build only)
Experience in detailed design for Contractors
Experience preparing tender documents for design-build contracts
Experience working in projects with resources based in other countries
