Reporting to the Head of Communications in MSF Sweden, and functionally also reporting to the Head of Communications in Beirut.
Works in close cooperation with the MENA Head of Communications Manager, Press & Media Relations Officer and other communication and project staff in the region
OBJECTIVES
The translator/editor ensures MSF delivers clear, factually correct and linguistically coherent public messages about our medical work and supports MSF's ability to engage and communicate with communities and audiences in the Arabic-speaking world in an authentic, relevant and engaged voice
1. Translations
• Manage translation (outsourced and/or translated in-house) to and from English, French and Arabic, including, but not limited to: Middle east press and communications material, website and social media content, briefing papers and publications as well as documents related to the institution, such as job descriptions, contracts, memorandums of understanding, protocols, medical reports, training materials, administrative papers,etc;
• Manage translation requests from MSF Communication team as well as MSF's international teams in Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and beyond, as well as MSF's departments of Communications, Operations, legal, medical, humanitarian diplomacy, Training, HR, administration, logistics and MSF associations.
• Translate, proof-read and maintain confidentiality on classified documents related to legal or security issues as requested by field missions or headquarters.
• Develop, feed and update MSF Arabic terminology glossary and MSF style guideline.
• Upon request, provide support to Crisis Management Teams & Emergency Desks as an in-house (Arabic) translator for extremely confidential data
• Manage translation to Arabic of MSF audiovisual material upon need and requests with relevant service providers, providing coherent translation for scripts, editing and proof-reading, final production quality assurance, adaptation
• Monitor production of audiovisual material for adaptation.
• Review audiovisual material in English and French that include Arabic speech.
2. Editing
• Revise & edit all translated material to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity in language and with MSF terminology, standards, principles and practice
• Proof-read and review materials produced in Arabic by other MSF colleagues and departments
• Manage layout and format editing and proof-reading of Arabic produced material, including reports, newsletter, medical material, etc.
• In collaboration with communication staff, manage layout and format of Arabic produced material, maintain and further develop the Arabic MSF style, tone and terminology and ensure MSF Arabic social media meets MSF editorial and style guidelines
• Ensure compliance with MSF ethical guidelines and media laws to ensure respect for patients, MSF staff and partners
• Create Arabic content to support MSF communication goals in the region
REQUIREMENTS
• Proven written and oral communication and translation proficiency in three languages: English, Arabic, French.
• Minimum 2 years' experience with MSF, preferably in the Middle East.
• Minimum a BA degree in translations/communications/journalism.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in translation with the above languages
• Minimum of 1 year experience in editorial role
• Proven skills in writing/editing and proofreading
• Ability to work within a team, under pressure, and at odd hours as urgency requires
• Highly organized, with ability to handle multiple priorities at a time
• Working knowledge of word editing documents, Microsoft word at minimum, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, etc an advantage
• Strong interpersonal, intercultural, and communication skills
• Pro-active and resourceful, results oriented
• Collaborative, constructive, team oriented
• Accurate and attentive to detail
• Flexible work approach and flexibility to travel

Varaktighet, arbetstid
• Salary: 28 064 SEK/month (salary to be adjusted 1st of June 2018 according to the outcome of the salary review) * Starting date: 15th of July 2018 * Location: Based in Sweden with travels to MSF projects and offices
