Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.

In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we're expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we're on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars' journey into the future.
What's in it for you?
We are now looking for a Traffic and Accident Data Analyst with a genuine interest in traffic safety to join our Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
At Volvo Cars Safety Centre, 190 highly skilled professionals strive every day to make the world a safer place for car drivers and everyone else on the road. We are proud of our track record including numerous world's firsts, all based on real world research and knowledge: exemplified by the safety belt (1959), SIPS (1991), WHIPS (1998), City Safety (2008), Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto brake (2010), and Run off Road protection (2015).
The future challenges and opportunities are exciting and through advanced technology and research we are developing safety with regard to injury prevention and collision avoidance, in addition to areas like Autonomous Drive, HMI, emotional safety and driver behavior - all based on real life situations.
The groups working with collision avoidance analysis are analyzing accident field data from different international real-world data sources including Volvo Cars' own Traffic Accident and Naturalistic Driving databases. They create methods for verification and validation of the safety performance of the vehicles. The knowledge created is used to develop principles, guidelines and strategies used to develop even safer Volvo passenger cars.
What you'll do
The main task of the role is to analyze accident data from the field to create knowledge used to develop principles and guidelines that will be used to develop even safer cars in the future. You will also be developing suitable methods and tools used for the data analysis and you will be communicating the results to other stakeholders within and outside of the organization. The accident data comes from various sources such as Volvo's own accident database and international accident databases like Fatality Analysis Report System (FARS), the Swedish Traffic Accident Data Acquisition (STRADA) or German In-Depth Accident Study (GIDAS).
You and your skills
You have a master's level degree or higher within a relevant field such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science or equivalent. On a personal level, you first and foremost share our genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety. We believe that you are used to analyse traffic and accident data, that you have a great analytic skills and a talent for creating synthesis-based insights. Also, you have the pedagogical abilities and engagement needed to present and explain these insights to an audience who might not know your area very well and doing it in such a way that they can easily apply what you have learned within their areas of expertise.
You have a collaborative mindset and believe that teamwork is a stronger driver of results than solo acts. You are research focused and motivated, but can still keep a customer focus, in the sense that research at Volvo Cars in the end is intended to create safer and better products and therefore has to support product development in the way it is performed. You will need to have good skills within programming (e.g., Python) and be comfortable using analysis tools such as Matlab. Meritorious is previous experience from project work, work in virtual safety evaluation, analysis of different types of traffic data and/or experience of ADAS simulations. You need to have a Swedish driver's license (B) and be comfortable using English in your daily work.
