Introduction

In the realm of construction machinery, the push towards sustainability and efficiency is of paramount importance. Electrical construction machines have emerged as a promising solution to reduce emission and lower operating costs. One critical factor influencing the performance of these machines is rolling resistance. Understanding and accurately estimating rolling resistance is essential for optimizing the design, operation, and overall performance of electrical construction machines.
This thesis proposal outlines the objectives and methodologies for creating an advanced estimator of rolling resistance especially tailored to electrical construction machinery.

Description of thesis work

Research Objectives
The primary objectives of this research are as follows:
To develop ana accurate and robust rolling resistance estimator.
To enhance the understanding of the factors influencing rolling resistance.
To validate the estimator through extensive real-world testing and data analysis.

Methodology

To achieve the objectives, the following research methods and steps are recommended:
Literature Review: To provide an in-depth review of the existing literature on rolling resistance, focusing on different methods for data/signal estimator and their limitations.
Data Collection: Gather relevant data, including machine specifications, tire characteristics, terrain profiles, and environmental conditions.
Machine Modeling: Develop a mathematical model of the electrical construction machine to simulate its motion and power consumption.
Rolling Resistance Estimation: Integrate the rolling resistance model within the machine model to estimate the rolling resistance.
Validation: Validate the estimator through on-sites tests, comparing real-world data with the model's predictions.

Timeline
This project is expected to be completed within 6 months, with the following milestones:
Literature review and data collection
Machine modeling and rolling resistance estimation
On-site testing and validation
Data analysis and thesis writing

We are looking for a team of two students with knowledge of electromobility.
You are curios, open-minded and are interested in collaborating with people with another background than yourself. During the master thesis you are mainly located at our plant in Eskilstuna. The recruitment process is ongoing, the positions can be filled before the application time has expired.
