Level of thesis project: Master thesis.
Number of students in the project: 1 or 2 students
Target:
This project is intended to develop a data driven model to be used for load monitoring in field.
Background:
The tunnel boring machine, Mobile Miner, is a central and vital part of the mining process where it is used. To ensure that the machine is used according to what it is designed for, monitoring of the loads is valuable. This way feedback of the usage to the operator and prediction of the remaining life can be made. As strain measures are not available in field, a data driven approach is suggested. For another product at Epiroc an in-house method has been developed to do strain predictions based on data from the control system of the machine. We would like to investigate this approach also for the Mobile Miner. What is different in this new application is the classification of usage which is qualitatively different from existing method. Measurement data of loads together with logs from control system will be available from a functional test of the Mobile Miner.
Mission:
Your mission in this project will be to investigate suitable input signals and develop a data driven model for load monitoring based on available data from functional test measurement. Also, where needed, classify the usage in order to monitor the life degradation of structural parts. This project will be considered a success when a set of input signals has been motivated and then used to realize a data driven model for which the expected prediction capability has been explored.
Qualification:
We are looking for 1-2 goal oriented and humble students who are self-starters, put attention to details and with a strong sense of responsibility.
