Are you interested in working with advanced technology and being part of an innovative team that supports Westinghouse's mission to provide clean energy solutions? Do you have physics knowledge, analytical skills and do you enjoy a dynamic and international working environment? Great - you should join our team!

The Thermal Hydraulic Design team in Västerås, Sweden is responsible for thermal hydraulic design for both BWR, VVER and PWR reactors. Our work provides a critical contribution to the operations and business of nuclear power plants around the world.

Our team is part of the EMEA Fuel Engineering department, which in addition to thermal hydraulic design is responsible for core design, fuel rod design, criticality analysis, materials, mechanical design, safety analysis and method- and software development.

Your Day-To-Day Work
Reactor core thermal hydraulics addresses heat removal from the reactor fuel and coolant flow in the reactor core under normal operation and accident conditions. You will perform standard and non-standard reactor core thermal hydraulic analysis work for international customers, following and understanding approved methodologies, procedures and internal processes while maintaining focus on nuclear safety and quality. Analyses will support safe plant operation by determining design bases and limits that meet safety and regulatory criteria, quantifying thermal margins, and identifying and evaluating risks to plant safety and fuel performance. For your analyses, you will be using Westinghouse specific thermal hydraulic codes such as VIPRE-W and POLCA.

You may also be involved in development projects, in which new fuel designs are analyzed and evaluated.

The analyses performed are summarized in customer reports, which means that an ability to clearly document and describe the analyses performed is required. Good knowledge in English, both spoken and written, is essential.

Who You Are
Your academic background is Master or Bachelor of Science (nuclear engineering, energy systems engineering, engineering physics or equivalent).

Your communication skills are good in both written and spoken English, written and spoken in one of the languages of the Eastern Europe (Ukrainian, Russian etc) and preferably also in Swedish. You enjoy working both independently and in a team. As documentation of analysis results is an essential part of the work, you should also have a talent for writing reports and you are an advanced user of the Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel applications.

You have experience and knowledge in nuclear engineering and thermal hydraulic design for VVER-1000, VVER-440. You have knowledge of global rules, regulations, policies and Nuclear Power Plant Regulatory documents (TechSpec, FSAR) related to VVER-1000 and VVER-440, preferably you also have knowledge of specific local rules and regulations for Nuclear Power in Eastern Europe. Knowledge and experience of thermal hydraulic calculations in general is a requirement.

You are an analytical person with a good sense of accuracy, accountability, and safety.

As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
• Ability to learn quickly and display a strong attention to detail
• Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• PhD degree
• Experience in nuclear physics providing numerical simulations
• Scientific publications
• Participation in the international scientific projects
• Advanced knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices in the field of reactor core, fuel and thermal hydraulic systems design.
• Know and apply standards, processes and best practices of the steady state, transient and accident conditions thermohydraulic DNBR analysis.
• Knowledge of the designs of the nuclear power plants located in Eastern Europe.
• Demonstrate capacity to apply the Westinghouse thermal hydraulic sub-channel code VIPRE-W.
• Experience in using the REPLOT code for preparing axial power distributions.
• Be able to run applications in the remote Linux environment.
• Know and apply computer programming, for example the FORTRAN programming language, for developing utilities for data processing and analysis.
• Support development of new methods and processes for implementing technical requirements. Coordinate and/or prepare technical documents for associated licensing approvals and provide expertise and consultation to technical panels, reviews, committees, regulators, customers, and partners on various Thermal-Hydraulic related topics.
