The department Electric Propulsion Systems is responsible for all development of all major parts of the hybrid and electric vehicle systems. Sub-system such as Batteries, Electric Drives, Power supply and Chargers are some of our responsibilities. The department is a part of the unit Powertrain. The group, Electrical Energy Storage System, within the department, is responsible for the traction Battery system and all its specifications. The battery is developed as a complete delivery unit by one sub-supplier. Within the group we are responsible for the usage of the battery including durability/life expectancy.
As Test Engineer you will work closely together with our HV battery test lab where we are evaluating and verifying individual cells, modules and complete systems. You will be working together with our cell experts and functionality development team. You will be responsible for development of test methods in the lab as well as taking part of the development of the lab as such. The lab as operators who perform tests according to established test methods. There is also test performed outside of Volvo Cars, you will be responsible for initialising and follow up as well as making sure the test is performed according to our need. You will also be working in close cooperation with our CAE engineers developing aging models and methods.
Main responsibilities
• Responsible for ordering and specifying tests of cells/systems towards Volvo Cars internal lab, supplier or external test labs
• Develop and verify test methods for cells and systems regarding durability together with our experts
• Secure coordination between our durability team, where you will be a natural part and test labs
• Follow up all test activities in project to secure complete validation of cells and systems regarding durability/life expectancy
• Develop Volvo Cars battery lab together with lab personnel and project leaders
• Be part of the durability team where you will verify CAE data and provide essential input
Required qualifications
• Engineering degree or equivalent
• Experience from testing within or towards laboratories
• Able to use CAE tools like Matlab for evaluation purpose
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Any previous work related to LI-ion batteries is meritorious
