hela Sverige A tenure track position as Associate Senior Lecturer in Structural Molecular Biology, with research focus on structure function of proteins, is hereby announced at the Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU, Uppsala. The department currently consists of approximately 110 employees. Together with two other departments it forms an inspiring research environment at Uppsala BioCenter at Ultuna campus with competence within plant biology, mycology, plant pathology, microbiology, food science, chemistry and biotechnology, and with state of the art infrastructure consisting of e.g. plant cultivation facilities, advanced microscopy, X-ray, NMR and molecular biology facilities.The department performs research, education and environmental monitoring within the areas: inorganic, physical and organic chemistry, biochemistry, natural products chemistry, food science and microbiology. The subject covers structural molecular biology, with focus on protein's biophysical and structural properties and function in biochemical processes relevant for the bio-based economy.
Duties
The Associate Senior Lecturer shall develop his/her own research line in the field of molecular biology, with focus on protein's biophysical and structural properties and function in biochemical processes relevant for the bio-based economy. This field of research entails biochemical characterization of protein molecules in order to achieve better basic knowledge, and enable better use, of these in biotechnological applications. This is expected to be done in close collaboration with colleagues at the department and SLU, as well as through national and international collaborations.
In addition, the associate senior lecturer shall:
• teach at basic (BSc) and advanced (MSc) levels,
• participate in postgraduate education as a co-supervisor,
• apply for external research funding,
• initiate the development of his/her own research group, and
• receive pedagogical training.
Qualifications
Eligible for employment as Associate Senior Lecturer are candidates who hold a PhD or have equivalent academic qualifications. Priority will be given to candidates who have received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no longer than five years before the application deadline. For an appointment as Associate Senior Lecturer the candidate must be scientifically proficient in structural molecular biology, with specific focus on protein structure biology. Good ability to communicate in written and spoken English is required.
Assessment criteria
Emphasis is primarily put on the qualitative indicators of the applicant's academic skills. Furthermore, the assessment includes evaluating the applicant's ability to develop an independent line of research within the subject area, and to qualify for promotion to senior lecturer during the employment period. Emphasis will also be put on skills in communication and ability to work across several of the department's research areas. Teaching and administrative experience relevant for the position's subject area are considered as merits.

The employment is limited to four years in accordance with the Higher Education Act. A position as associate senior lecturer is a qualifying employment that constitutes the first step in an academic career at SLU. An associate senior lecturer has the right during his or her employment to apply for promotion to senior lecturer on the basis of criteria established when the position as associate senior lecturer was announced.
