MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.
The accelerator development group
We are a group of roughly ten people dealing with different aspects of accelerator development.
It could be within beam dynamics, magnet technology, laser technology or other areas.
Tasks
The successful candidate will work for approximately six months in collaboration with the MAX IV Accelerator Development group to perform tasks including:
- Using the software Radia in order to create kick-maps for insertion devices.
- Using the software AcceleratorToolbox or similar, to create feed-forward tables for focussing compensation of insertion devices.
- Implement and test the feed-forward tables in cooperation with both accelerator physicists, insertion device specialists and accelerator operators.
- Pinpointing shortcomings of the system and search for innovative solutions.
Qualifications
The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:
- Master degree in physics or electrical engineering, and a good understanding of magnetic materials
- Experience in using the codes mentioned above.
- Experience in working at a synchrotron radiation laboratory.
- Ability to work both independently, and to work in collaboration with engineering, operation and physics experts
